I call her "Bertha"

Whoa where do i even start with this build geessh! I guess ill start off with an intro on the truck.

Looking at a bone stock 00'' Ext Cab S-10 that i purchased off of my grandfather at the age of 15 years old. The reason for this was due to picking up a Mini Trucking Mag (R.I.P) when i was younger and fell in love with the 2nd gen s-10. Once i took more interest with it, i starting to get an understanding towards the scene and i have never looked away since then. Below is NOT the truck but this is what it exactly looked like when i bought it.

NOTE: This has been a build going on for years so im being very short with the build prior to when i was young. Ill go into more detail once im in the present.
Visit- http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=22370 if you want to see EVERY DETAIL.

After i bought the truck from my grandfather it had issue's that i knew of. First i had to get it running since all it did was sit on the side of his house. Once it was running i had to get it to pass inspection. So i bought a bunch of nik nak parts along with an exhaust to get the okay.

At that point i was old enough to start driving it so i ended up putting a Belltech 2/3 drop kit on it with a set of wheels, Extreme stripe's, a chrome grilled and clear corners.

Untitled by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

After a year or so i got bored and wanted a new look, so i bought new wheels, phantom projector setup, new billet grille, SS Mirrors and an Extreme lip.

Untitled by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

After that phase i went a little lower with a 4/4 drops on a block and adjustable coil setup.

After the 4/4 drop.

During all this stuff i really race an Asphalt Late Model as my hobby. Been racing gokarts since i was about 7 and then moved into a nascar when i turned 18 and graduated high school.

Sold the front end again and went to an OEM look.

Cut up a blazer roof rack and rolled like that for a little.

Picked these up for $50 and started to refinish them. Was nice to have these before everyone else started putting them on dimes but that's cause they look so damn good.

Untitled by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Cleaned them up a bit and gave them a fresh coat of paint for a test fit!

Wheels all fitted up and looking good. This was back in 2012.

This was the status of the truck at the end of 2012.

Driveway Issues 01 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Unfortunately shortly after the holidays, my grandfather passed away. I looked up to this man just as much as i do to my father. He was fighting the battle against cancer years before he passed. He actually was able to be 100% cured for 8 months but sadly passed away due to it coming back a second time. Before he passed away he was laying in his hospital bed and was talking to me about life and at this point in my life i was already going through family issues's and a previous death in the family. He says to me Quote "Promise me you will keep the truck clean and in one piece, if you ever sell that damn thing ill be sure to haunt you for it." This is really the only thing in my life that i have of his, so this truck means the world to me and i plan to keep it no matter what. This isn't just a build it's somewhat of a family crest in my eyes that hopefully with stay with my family over time.

Stickers Grave 01 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Okay now that i got everyone caught up lets fast forward to somewhat the present. I graduated college, sold the racecar and got a job. I do Computer Network Engineering/System Admin work. So this allowed me to park the truck and get a new daily driver.

Accord 01 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Once i had a new daily and could spend time working on the truck more this happened...

Replaced and painted the rotted out core support and rest of the front end.

Re-Build 02 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

So then i finally came to my sense. After working for a few months at this point and making bank i bit the bullet and decided i was going to bag the truck. So before i left the static life i lowered the truck to a 6/7 drop and put the S-10 front end back on with crystal headlights, OEM corners, Chrome Bumper and 97 valence.

Re: I call her "Bertha"

glad to finally see a build thread for this truck. been a big fan since i saw it sometime last year. its been one of my favourite trucks ever. so clean, almost hate to see it get bagged. i love a bagged or bodied truck but also love a static slammed truck.

where'd you get those adjustable coils?

had no idea it was your grandpa's, that makes it much more special and worth keeping it together.

Thanks everyone with the positive feedback! Yeah i have my FULL build thread up on StanceWorks, so i just pieced together this thread to catch everyone up on everything. Glad you dig the truck man, i would LOVE to keep it static and just go with the flow but i'm over all the headaches of being static in my truck. Being bagged is just easier and worth it in the long run in my opinion. I rather enjoy driving it then be worried about what roads i can and can't take. PA Roads suck period.

I plan on building another dime, and turning it into a drift missile but ill come to that build once mine is on the ground.

I got the coils directly from QA1 Motorsports.

cant go wrong with bags.i liked the 6/7 drop but its gonna look good laid out.best part about bag is you can just hit a switch and raise up so you can get a jack under it.i always hated driving onto boards to get high enough to get a jack under it.

Yea I've been meaning to make truck length ramps but in sections so you can take the middle out so you can crawl under or to get a jack under it easier. But that would be for all my cars too.

I'd like one day to return to bags but I have to get another daily first.

My point exactly! My driveway is a struggle being static. Air will just make things so much more realistic.

Re: I call her "Bertha"

Been slacking on the updates.

Pulled the AC out and began on removing the unnecessary things...
I still have more work to do under the hood but at this point i just want the thing to be laying on the ground.

Under Construction 001 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Under Construction 002 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Started to tear down the whole front end suspension and boy was it a fight. This may not be the rustiest dime out there but 80% of these nuts, bolts, ect. were just frozen. A grinder and torch became my best friends.

Once the frame was all broken down i started to grind away and start the resto job on the frame.

All new part's are ordered for the front like bolts, nuts, CA Shafts ect. Looking to have everything put together this weekend if shipments come in on time.

don't get to the point of cutting corners just to lay it out, you'll regret it in the long run. It'll come sooner than you think

looks like a real clean start! I like how everything seems to be organized, and pre-thought out. Im not that far away from you, I'm in Oxford Pa, which is in the tri-state area of PA, MD, and DE. Bout half hour from West Chester, PA. Looking forward to seeing this around. You should check out Grounded 4 Life-One Day Slam in Bristol, PA and LowRollers-End of Summer Bash in NJ. Front is back together.

Here is a teaser. Currently sitting on the inner fenders (sigh) since i'm on a meaty winter tire but ill fix that shortly after i finish the front.

I still need to weld up the shock mounts and im going to make a adjustable custom sway bar for the front as well.

Re: I call her "Bertha"

Also, still need to obviously cut more out of my spring pockets. The truck wont move till the back half is finished anyway, plus i have to take it all apart to run lines in the future once its finished.

Spring pocket looks good to me Many guys use the check the clearance with a finger all the way around when aired up approach. As a rule of thumb, or finger in this case.

Re: I call her "Bertha"

Update:

Front is done minus tacking up the shock mounts and building an adjustable swap bar i have in the works.

Sitting on the inner fenders right now but i have new wheels that are going on the truck towards the end of summer.

Washed the truck after the long harsh winter we had in PA.

Bath Time 01 by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Shortly after finishing the front i went to the back of the truck.
Where the booty go? by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Haha, didn't realize how much damn prep work there was to getting the rear put back together but i managed fine being a one man team.
Grind, Punch, Smooth, Repeat... by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

This is currently what is going on now. Re-Building the rear end, prepping the link bars, getting ready to throw the gas tank back in ect.
image by Cole Lenhart, on Flickr

Now for the haters to come out of the darkness. Since i'm not going to pull the fenders out until i figure out what motor swap i am going to do i wont be throwing on the typical 18''-22'' wheels that mostly everyone runs.

I am going to have a little fun with the "Bagged Fitment" idea until i obtain my new heart for the truck. I am not going to be running crazy non-sense stretch but i will be running a bit of poke.

This truck is just a bit different than your average s-10 but thats my personality in life.

I actually sold them back in the fall last year. I got offered a deal i couldn't refuse.

The new ones will be temporary until i get the correct specs for my 3-piece wheels i have in my possession.

Thanks man. Haha unfortunately yes working in the driveway is my only option. I've battled with mother nature all year round to work on it which is why progress is slow.

I let my dad have the garage for his 73" SS Street Nova we are building so i help out with that and also make time to work on my truck when the weather is nice.

Re: I call her "Bertha"

^^ I pay to rent a toy shop $300/month. It has everything in it to do most custom work including a 2 post lift. If anyone tells you working on the ground is ok, they have NEVER had full use of a lift. It is the BIGGEST BONUS there is - next to A/C, beer and Bourbon!!!!
(oh, and titties too)

Too bad it's in New York, and I'm in Baton Rouge. At least I get to use it about 4 weeks out of the year.
AND... I can say this much... I pack a ton of work into those 4 weeks baby.

The frame on your truck is magic. I hope you quit driving it in the nasty winter time.

Re: I call her "Bertha"

Got all the link bars built and ready to go. I'm paying fine attention to detail as usual and prepping the rest of the things that need to be cleaned up like bolt threads ect. In the process of painting the head of bolts and a few other things.

99.9% Sure the truck will be off the jack stands come the end of the week as long as mother nature is nice.
