Technically no but I do drive it most days of the week. I drive my dads Ranger for rainy days or when its too hot because the A/C in my S10 is pathetic at best. Since its 4wd it will be my winter vehicle too

if you are planning on sanding the paint off and letting it rust, its been done. its been done a lot in the last 10 years since the first guy did it.

What? I would never do that to a car, especially since I make cars shiny for a living...

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

thats good news. I used to be into bmw websites, in fact thats where my username originated, and every third guy with an e28 would say "I'm so original I am going to sand all my paint off". do a google image search for rusty e28, bet you see at least 10 on the first page of results.

the overheating is simple to fix. the thermostat housing is higher than the fill spout, so you have an air bubble. there is a bolt on top of the thermostat housing to bleed off air, make sure the heat is on full blast to circulate the water, park on an incline, warm the car up, and crack that bolt till all the bubbles come out. drive around a bit and do it again.

if that doesnt fix it, still easy, replace the clutch fan. you will need to buy or borrow a thin wrench from a bicycle shop, and give it a sharp whack with a mallet. it is reverse thread. nothing else will fit in there. the clutch fan is a viscous coupling, fins on the pulley side, fluid, fins on the fan side, and the hotter the engine the more heat is in the fluid, the more it couples the fins. unfortunately, the fins get bent over with all that 6700rpm fun, or the fluid leaks out, and the system stops working. not cheap, but easy enough.

I remembered a couple more things.

the ac blower is separate from the heater blower, and the heater blower always quits. buy a quality replacement or you will buy more cheap ones. the heater blower is under the hood and takes about 6 minutes to change. the AC blower is in the cabin and takes an act of congress and god holding his tongue right to change.

the heater control valve is electric, and goes bad. if you have no heat, this is your problem.

the fuses are the old ceramic type. maintenance includes opening the fusebox and spinning the fuses. I am not kidding. if something quits working, try spinning fuses. they corrode and lose connection.

if you smell gas on a cold startup TURN OFF THE CAR. there is a cold start valve on the intake manifold and the fuel line develops a leak because heat rises and there is insulation on the hood.

replace all the vacuum lines, one at a time. your car may not idle until you do.

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

Slight update:

Changed out my door pins and it was the best $4 I have ever spent on my truck

Like most S10s, this one was plagued with a loud, saggy door and it got to the point where i wasnt able to shut my door without slamming the shit out of it. It also helped bring the door back in line with the fender and extended cab door.

I also found a blazer grille at the local pick n pull while looking for a sonoma hood.

Mine has an aftermarket replacement grille that was put in at some point and it fits like dooky. It also doesnt like to hold my marker lights in very well and is embarrassing showing up somewhere with a light hanging out lol.

Test fit to ensure OEM fitment, the chrome will be stripped down to plastic, primed, and painted. Another issue I have with my grille is the shitty paint job I put on it before I knew how to paint. Story behind it was I had a night at the shop to strip, paint and install grille in 2 hours. Naturally I made a mess. I used the worst clear we had, used one coat, ran the piss out of it, and actually melted the grille with the heat light. 2 years later its stone chipped and a lot of the chrome is actually showing through the grille lol.

TLDR my grille is an eyesore. Im throwing in some new brake hoses and pads this weekend as well. While im there Im probably going to spray some rubber undercoat on the frame since I have some laying around so Ill take some pictures of that I guess

Door pins are very undervalued on these trucks. They do wonders.

If you had the clear lights and clear corners i would say leave the chrome cuz it looks sex with your wheels and the black, but if you're keeping the yellow lights then the chrome should be black

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

#h2oprep brooooooooo. Gotta love people going all out on there cars just in time for the winter haha. However I am partially guilty. Here is some progress I made tonight

Got the grille prepped and painted

Sealer

Based/cleared

Installed

If you saw my old grille, you would understand how big of an upgrade this is lol. I used a much better product this time around and my finish work has improved vastly.

I installed new brake hoses but no pix of that. I went to change the pads but they had plenty of beef on them so I left them be. While I was there I painted my frame

Only thing I'm going to do before I head down is change my oil, and put on a 94-97 valence. Also I went to a custom exhaust shop to get my flex pipe fixed. I was dissapointed that they couldn't do anything because of where the transmission pan and bell housing interferes with the clearance. Actually my pan itself is taking some real damage so I'm going to have to 5 speed swap it. Not like that's a bad thing of course. Lol hopefully nothing bad happens at h2o for me, wish me luck guys

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

Well I ended up going to H2o and had a really great time, unfortunately on the way there I lost 2nd, 4th and reverse so I wasn't able to take my truck. Luckily it happened when I was still close to home but it still really bummed me out. I also ended up peeling my vinyl off the headlights as to not get harassed by OCPD.

Honestly, at first I was kinda bummed with how it looked but now its grown on me. Honestly now when I see pics of the yellow headlights I think it's gross lol.

I was angry in that picture; met up with @slowlowandbangin and hung out for a little bit

Made it home then started cleaning my mess of a garage

After

Still have a bit to do but I'll finish it up later. This is what made me fall in love with the clears

SO, now I really have my damn work cut out for me because I didn't intend on getting too involved with the truck at this point until now. Basically I'm going to start collecting parts for a 5 speed swap because ive never had good luck with autos anyway. Going to do my fender tubs, going to buy @passwordistaco's raised carrier bearing cross member, going to raise my gas tank, going to modify my control arms for more suspension travel, going to raise my gas tank, going to lower the rear, going to find a Sonoma hood, going to get new wheels, maybe paint. I also have to finish my bike, so yeah its going to be a busy winter for fackinsteve

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

Update. I guess?

I took my ESMs off so that the next owner can enjoy them. So this is the last picture of my truck on these wheels, ever. Just look at it. This is it.

Now that you've enjoyed that amazing high quality picture, here's what my truck kind of looks like now. Only had time to get a picture of the fronts on lol

Heck yeah. Sits awesome.

Still trying to figure out a way of keeping this to daily, likelyhood of this is minimal, but I'm trying. With that being said you're probably wondering why I sold my ESMs. Here's their replacement

Sike

I've always wanted to refinish a set of wheels, so now I have two sets lol. I need a single GTA wheel though, one is completely fcuked but for $80 I can't complain. I'm going to strip them completely, paint the faces gold maybe, polish the lips, mount small tires, determine if I like them, decide it doesn't matter because I'm selling the truck anyway. I think.

Oh I also got this for my garage. Its 4x4, like my ride height, and looks ****ing awesome in person.

God darn truck shifter thingy majiggers

I got 3 spare GTAs. Been crappily plastidipped by the last owner, but should clean up just fine. Grey centers. PM me if you're interested.

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

I made a bit of progress this weekend! I've been shifting most of my attention to my E28 lately but I do want to get this thing back on the road and driveable. Not to mention a few things have been slowing progress down on the BMW but for those who are intersted here is a quick little update on that.

Got the interior 90% gutted, removed the seats, dash, carpet, everything from the trunk because I wanted to do a thorough inspection of the floors rigidity because I had my doubts about the lack of rust I could see.

Most of what you see is surface rust. Ive been trying to punch the old sound deadening out to repaint the floors and dynamat them and all was going fairly smooth until I found this little guy

Not really that bad but its something I will be immediately addressing once the S10 is back up and running. I already have all the materials to form the patch I just need to well, form the patch and have someone weld it in because I dont have a welder. Another big thing is the location of the BMW. I do have two driveways and the S10 is occupying the wider section of that so I will eventually be switching spots. I also got a set of one of my bucket list wheels, BBS RF

And my friend decided he wants to photoshop how the BMW will look lowered and wearing those wheels

ENOUGH ABOUT THE BMW THIS IS AN S10 FORUM!!!!!!!!!
BMW build thread: http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=83144

Heres what my neighbors have been looking at for the past two weeks!

I had planned on getting the trans out last weekend but I had to do brakes on my Ranger and some family events interfered with progress. I also got really hung up on the transmission lines because I didn't realize there was a little clip that holds the damn thing in so I wrenched off the bottom line which took forever, and then popped off the top line. Unbolted the torque converter, and bellhousing bolts and voila!

The bane of my fcuking existence. Im picking up a used transmission today actually. I need to grab a few things before I toss that one in, things like a rear main seal, neutral safety switch, and some random sensor I accidentally annihilated. One thing I felt was quite abnormal was the amount of fluid that came from the output shaft. Like seriously so much fluid came out it was insane and it made a crazy mess in my driveway. But that gave me an excuse to push the truck back and throw down some speedy dry.

Even though its on ZQ8s and sitting about an inch and a half higher than it used to, it feels so good seeing on flat ground. My plan for wheels this year is a combination of 0 offset GTA wheels I scored from Tim (IHaveNoPantsOn) and some randy scrandy. But while I work on refinishing those I want to run the BBS RF's because well, they're the nicest wheels I've ever owned. They're 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 even though I much rather be on 18s, I still feel they're a good temporary wheel. Here are the GTA's btw.

I need to strip the clear, sand down the lips and take out all the imperfections out of them, paint the faces BBS gold, and polish the lips. I actually always wanted to run a set of these so part of me is excited. Thats all for now, with any luck I might be able to get the trans back in next weekend. We'll see. I'll keep you guys updated

The BBS look good on the s10. As far as your tranny fluid spill, depending on the angle it was at, a couple quarts spilling out would be normal.

Did those come stock on a certain car or are they aftermarket? I like the color of the centers.

Thank you guys! I picked these up for a solid $1500. They tend to go for a bit more but this guy really wanted to sell them. And Mo I don't believe they were an OEM wheel. I love the face color too but it clashes with the theme of my BMW so they will get a color change eventually

Re: Bought a daily, probably gonna need a new daily...

Here's my "new" transmission. Cleaned it up quickly with some degreaser and a wire brush before I moved into my garage, I'd say it cleaned up nicely. Hell I might even throw a coat of paint on it depending on my motivation and the weather. Its not quite warm enough to paint stuff here in Massachusetts so I might not even bother.

Identically it is the same as the one from my truck, I'm really hoping it works as stated. All I need to grab before I toss it in is a rear main seal (might as well), a neutral safety switch, and a sensor that I tested the tensile strength of lol. With any luck I'll have it bolted in next weekend but I'm happy with how productive my weekend was.
