suggestion for the tech area....

Ok now here is the thing, i understand the thread has to be detailed but i dont understand why it cant be an open discussion. no matter how detailed you write it there will always be discussion involving what needs to be done or if i can do this or that. i know you dont want people reading though 80 posts or anything but there should be an option where we could edit the posts with info that comes up from the discussion. that way its on the first post and the discussion will still remain below.

also we have a how-to section and i have yet to see any of those articles added into this area. some may not be as "complete" but still should be moved into this area since it contains a great deal of info.

i dont know, its just that this all seems too uptight and too professional for a forum environment. i know it needs to have some professional writing on it but just doesnt seem right.

for example. the "top ten multimeter" tests thread, why is there 2 threads for it? you can type all that info into once posts instead of splitting it into two.

also for the how-to safely jack up your vehicle one. yeah great info but how about posting HOW TO DO IT ON AN S10/BLAZER? this is s10forum after all. there are few spots on the frame that offers great stability when using jacks/stands. that info would be better than knowing how to jack up a unibody car looks like this stuff was just copy/pasted into here. when you read it (at least when i do) i feel like i am reading out of manual for how to work on cars in general which wont help much.

Not trying to lash out at you Don but just posting an opinion of this whole tech exchange idea. If anything i would say putting all of these articles into a well written sticky above each appropriate section. look at the s10F how-to section. most threads average what, 12-20K views? but when you go into the 4.3 to 2.2 sections the sticky has 35k views or so for the 4.3 section and the 2.2 stickies has 57K! even more in the v8 section has 130K views! so i dont think putting them all in one section will really attract a ton of traffic since people having a problem with their transmission or 4.3 or 2.2 will go to THOSE sections for help, then they see the sticky and go from there.

another example, a person wanting to clean their SMC valves will go to the bagging it section, not the how-to section. either they dont know its there or dont think it will be in that section.

just my .02 cents.

Old threat I know but I say at least open it up to edit info. I just wrote one and hit submit then realized I needed to add a few more things but I cant even edit my own write up.

Re: suggestion for the tech area....

Well, just copy your post, paste it in the quick reply or advanced editor and edit, i will delete any duplicate posts and keep the final edited version. to everyone else it will look like your first post once the article is completed.

just not sure if there is a user group to allow you to do that since the default is 30 minutes to edit.
