Question Using a single external hard drive on two different devices?

So I either can't wrap my mind around what I need or it's not doable. I have my external hard drive hooked up to my WDTV, but it just hit me that I can also hook it up to my new TV so I tried it and it works. What I'm wanting to do is have it hooked up to both the WDTV so I can watch movies in the theater room and the tv in the living room so I can watch them there. Is this possible?

Here's a crude drawing of what I have.

I would think that the WD TV units and the HDD would all need to be on a local network and all should work. I do not have WD TV but research shows that the newest devices are network compatible. Older devices, not so much.

Yeah the wdtv's are tied into my network, but my tv won't pick them up.
