Rent balljoint removal service from auto store. And use torch or MAPP to heat up the balljoint then press out what you can as well as hitting it dead on with a small sledgehammer.

3# sledge is just about right. Support the lca, hold the treaded niece upright with a pickle fork and have at it.

Re: lower ball joint removal

I did a two press procedures for each ball joint, first straightened and pressed out the stud with a cup under the surrounding the housing and just the clamp head. The second with a cup the same way under the housing from below then a cup above to press out the ball joint housing, only sledged very little to get the housing to fall through.

Re: lower ball joint removal

Just rent the press, removal is usually pretty easy. I had a much harder time putting them back in, even with the ball joint in the freezer and heating the LCA, I was using a 3ft breaker bar to press them back in.

Issue with re-installing balljoint is not being leveled/even while being pressed in. You can use hammer and tap it to even back up. Otherwise it'll go in at angle and wouldn't be installed properly. It'll take couple tries to get the hang of it.

Re: lower ball joint removal

a piece of pipe just large enough to fit over the ball joint thats square cut can be used to determine if its going in straight.
If you are doing bushings, best to use a shop press.
