Re: My 03 Extended cab

Finally got some time to post some pics of what I have been doing the last couple of weeks.

Got my roll pan and air dam back from the paint shop.

Pulled the big heavy stock exhaust.

Roll pan and new exhaust with new LED tails.

All finished at the rear.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

New air dam installed, looks much better than the old Bondo mess that I bought it with.

I just ordered a trifold hard tonneau, should be here in time for my next days off.

Still waiting for the right paperwork from Montana so I can get it titled and registered.

Good news is I got an email saying the Brown Santa is going to deliver my tonneau cover today.

Wow, they really make you jump thru hoops for registration. That's a bummer. Hopefully it comes thru soon.
Your thread is also becoming dangerous. I just found the best way I think to install hood shocks and the worst part is I have those same pivot points/mounting brackets in a box full of odds and ends. I haven't even fully figured out a LED third brake to go from end to end! LOL
What is the weight rating on those hood shocks you got?

I don't know I got the kit from MotoCam360, very happy with it.

I'm working on redoing my brake light, will post pics once I get it figured out.

I was in the middle of rebuilding the suspension, and disc brake conversion when I hurt my back at work. Had to have surgery, 4 level fusion in lower back, and was out of commission for 11 months. I have been playing catch up ever since, so the 57 is waiting for retirement before I will have time to get back to it. It has the original 283 with powerpack heads, 097 solid lifter cam, Holley 4 barrel, and a Muncie 4 speed.

My next door neighbor lets his brother park his Matco truck there. The good part is I can buy tools for his cost, the bad part is I have most everything, so the only time I get to take advantage is when I loose something, or need a special tool that I have never needed before.

After getting a poor quality aftermarket one that I had to send back, I bought genuine GM from one of the discount online dealers. Fit and finish is first rate of course, you get what you pay for held true in this case.

I can see how it would slip your mind to mention it....not...lol.Sometime in the next 2 months, I'm helping a friend move to Oklahoma via Colorado...not sure of the exact location in CO we're stopping but if it's close maybe we can meet and I'll buy you a beer and check out the vehicles./

If you are going down 287 like most people do to get to Oklahoma, I am right on your way. Every thing is a mess right now, but you are welcome to stop by as long as I have advance notice so I can get off work, and you don't mind my mess. I am just east of Denver, straight south of the Denver airport.

The average first snowfall here is around Halloween, but they start getting it in the mountains next month. Pikes Peak already got a dusting, but that is 14,000 feet.

That is one of the reasons I no longer drive truck cross country for a living, too many hours with white knuckles while some dummy in a car is sliding sideways in front of me.

I don't have a choice where I live.. Snow is only good for sideways in an empty parking lot. The last time I did that in my old truck a trash can "came out of nowhere" and put a nice big dent on the right box side as I was going sideways. I no do that anymore lol

Got the 3rd brake light redone, epoxied the 3 LED panels together, and spliced the wires in.

Finally found a smoked lens to match the rest of my lights.

Now you guys can start the jokes about my wife's reflection.

I was thinking about doing it when I realized I had the gap, then when you mentioned it, I had to try it. The first one I ordered, they sent green instead of red, so I had to wait for them to send another one. Thanks for helping me make up my mind.

The Fairlane is mine, waiting for me to retire so I can give her some love, and restoring. The neighbor across the street has a 69 442, and there are a number of muscle cars, and street rods in the neighborhood. There is a Sonic drive-in about a mile from me that is full of nice cars every Friday night.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

Happy I could help! I tried making my own LED board but once I got into messing around I realized I would have to spend more on resistors then it's worth and my neck started hurting too much to keep soldering. Eventually I'm just going to do exactly what you did.

Must be nice living in a area full of nice 'real' cars. In my area it's just full of raspy imports and the odd cobalt that thinks it's an SS.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

I don't understand the attraction of those raspy coffee can mufflers, I had a Flowmaster on my 4 banger Datsun, and it sounded great. I guess it's the old follow the leader thing, once one does it they all have to do the same.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

There's a guy lives by my parents with an old datsun 280 in black. From what I can tell it might be original too (except for the exhaust) the paint looks to be old and faded but no peal. Other then that it looks real sharp except for the large can on a 45 out the back. Sounds good tho, doesn't have that raspy buzzzzzzzzzzz just a sort of deep howl?? I only ever see it around like once or twice a year.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

I put a Pacesetter system on the one I had, sounded pretty good. That car was surprisingly fast, and fun to drive.

Nice work with the truck! I'm in the process of making my own led third brake light. If it turns out well, I'd be happy to give you my how-to once I actually get it made? Its gonna be a two row red led with clear lens.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

Finally got some time to work on my truck. Modded the 3rd brake light again using the guts from a led version form a regular cab in my extended cab housing, very happy with the results.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

Then I got to work installing a Kenwood DNX874S that has all the bells and whistles, along with Alpine 6.5s in the doors, and a set of Polk coaxials in the dash.

Had to open up the openings for the Polks as the frame was larger than the factory speakers even though they are both 4X6.

I got a flush mount, and put it right above the license light in the roll pan. I'll try and take a pic tomorrow.

Re: My 03 Extended cab

Talk about attention to detail!! Nice work, I like how the rear cam and third brake came out. I been wanting to do my third brake since i saw Mpool32's thread. I never have time anymore with my kid turning 1 y/o going on 18 lol. Haven't even drove mine in the last 2 weeks. That kenwood head unit, I can't tell because the picture came out pretty dark is it a flip screen of any sort? Did you have to modify your already double din bezel any?

The brake light mod only took about an hour.

I took the pics at night after I finished. It is a flip screen, dvd/cd, and a memory card slot behind it. I had to hit both the lower corners with a rat tail file just a little to take care of a slight catch when it opened.
