Sorry I havent seen this thread in a while. There are a ton of pics of it in the link in my sig.

To the discussion about using C channel and why its on top of the frame, The bed that I HAD and was going to use was cut up kinda wierd. My way of "bracing" the floor so that the back of the notch cover wouldnt be loose or flex was this. The hole ended right on top of this bar so it braced the bed floor. I wanted to mount it in the frame, But also wanted to brace the floor so this was the way I went about doing it. but I junked the bed so now its just there

And thanks for the constructive critisism When people point out stuff I do wrong or where I could have done better it will help me when I do my next one. Ill admit I could have built something that looked a little better, But this was my first time building something like this. I wasnt too worried about how it looked since I was going to cover it

I know that feeling. I wanna bag mine bad but I just can afford it right now and from what I hear it's a bad idea to try to do it on a budget so I'll just wait

Re: post up some pics of your welds.

I like using 2x4 tubing because it's personally alot easier to get square accurate measurements. Also id life a little c notch but for as much travel that I needed it was necessary to make it that big. I would've loved to have it underslung but for dd and something id be towing with I felt that was the best way

was just about to say, watch for holes those are no good. did you just weld right over it or grind everything back out? just be careful welding over. more welds isnt necessarily good, you could make the steel brittle. but it looks like you just didnt connect the welds together. just make sure you grind down that section a little to make sure your weld penetrates down in or else it won't.

other than that props for stick welding all this. i love stick welding but i don't use it much anymore at work.

the biggest difference is that CO2 is going to burn hotter than C25, and is cheaper. But i could give you a picture of a CO2 weld and a C25 weld and look the same.

I didnt grind it all the way down, Just smoothed it some, wire brushed it, then ran one bead all the way round. Boy was that fun :/

And thanks for the props man! I know the welds arent as good as the nicer welders, But I like to think that for stick, they are pretty dang good. Some places could be better tho Ill say that.

Re: post up some pics of your welds.

That's with a welder in my metal sculpting class so I have no clue how much it cost. I can't remember how much it cost to fill my c25 tank bit it isn't to bad an its a 80cu ft tank I believe. I like to use innershield to, the clean up is the only problem.

Re: post up some pics of your welds.

i hated doing stuff that thick and doing full pen welds. even worse was when i had to do full pen welds on I-beams that are installed and have no room to get to it to weld and no room to move the gun around so you end up having more stick out than you want and can't get the puddle to do what you want.

Yeah its not too much fun at all. This wasn't even fullpen theres a 1/2" in the middle. Ive done 1" vertical underneath a scrapyard scale with literally no room on either side. that sucked the most for me

that's what I miss about welding school. We had the best equipment, new nice steel. Once I got a job I had 20 year old welders that said 30v when it was as hot as 22v on my own welder an had to deal with all types of condition steel.

6013 rods, They seem to be the best I have found. The slag just rolls right off and you can pick it up without having a chipping hammer if your welding right, and I run my welder on about 135.

Oh and do these count? They are welded...

Thanks broseph And I use some 7018's. But man they are a pain! its hard to find the right tempurature setting and they seem to burn alot different. The slag is always I bitch to get off. I just dont like them lol. The 6013 is easy to weld, slag rolls right off and is easy to start. As to the 7018 it seems like I have to strike 10 times sometimes.

you just gotta make sure to keep them in an oven because they suck up moisture like a bitch. i use them alot at work, and they start to be a pain within like 5 hours of being out of an oven.

My old work could care less about ovens, and most of the time we just used what we had in our rod holders, needless to say we had to go through a bunch of rods when we went to use what we had. I seemed to be the only one out of the field crews that would actually try and get rods out of the only oven we had each time I was welding stick, or would care to put the rods from a new container into the oven. Use to make me so mad.
