ABS light on 03 Sonoma

Haven't had much luck in my forum searches . . . Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. . . Anyway - here's what I've got. '03 Sonoma 4.3 auto. Every so often the ABS lite come on. No difference in braking. Shut the truck off and restart - lite is usually off. Since ABS is electrical what would it hurt if I just pulled the fuses for the ABS? The brakes are still hydraulic right? Or - is this just a stupid idea? Getting lots of EBCM error codes too. . .

How do you eat an elephant???? one bite at a time. I'd check the sensors for debris or contact. There have been a lot of threads lately about faulty ABS boards. Some guys take them out, get the Mr MaGoo glasses on and resolver the joints. There's a thread about sending it to a guy on eBay that's reasonable and has a quick turnaround time. As for the rest of the elephant dinner...take the codes one at a time.

No harm in pulling the fuse. You can even drive it without the controller on the valve body.

Re: ABS light on 03 Sonoma

I resoldered my 03 sonoma 4.3 abs board. No problem afterwards.
If you cannot solder, find someone who is fully capable.
I have soldered for 50 years in the radio communications field. I can do it without thinking.

Some people cannot, period.

Yes LMLeck - after 50 years of experience you must be good ! And where are you located ? ? ? Maybe you should start your own module repair service.

Re: ABS light on 03 Sonoma

One point to be aware of, when the solder joints on the board go bad you will get both ABS and Brake lights illuminated at the same time. If it's only the ABS it's likely something else like a sensor. A scanner capable of reading ABS codes will point you in the right direction. It's usually a sensor or the wiring to it.

Thanks for correcting me. You're right - it's the ABS and brake lights that come on . Sounds like I either need to disable the ABS system or pull the module and send it in for repair. I took the truck to a local garage to check the computer readouts and most of the error codes showing up are related to the EBCM. . . Thanks again for the tip.

Re: ABS light on 03 Sonoma

I also re-soldered the control board with success, but oldeerslayer is correct in that I had abs and brake lights on. Check grounds, wiring from sensors and sensors themselves. I know there's and Ohm value that tells you if the sensors are bad, but I don't remember the number. If I had to guess, I think my good sensors read ~.7 Ohms.
