92 GMC Sonoma complete emissions removal

Hey guy, just trying to find a video, or step by step in how to completely remove the components for emissions (as I live in a state that has no emissions requirements) I kinda have a know how to remove the smog pump, but was wondering if there are any other components that I can remove.

Re: 92 GMC Sonoma complete emissions removal

Why would you want to do that?
Thought you were putting an LM7 in it?

I have had a hiccup on acquiring the lm7, do to that I will not be able to afford 1. The fellow that I was talking to about his was going to have me help him pull the 1 he was going to give me and another. Then take the 2nd lm7 and put it into his truck that we pulled the first 1 out (the 2nd has a bunch of upgrades to it). So I am stuck with the weak 2.8L that has 262k on it. O and all original 92 parts on it (as I have been replacing a lot of part through it already)

Re: 92 GMC Sonoma complete emissions removal

So go buy a 5.3, they're cheap. Besides the engine is usually only 10% of the cost of a LS swap. Personally I'd go for an LQ9 or L96. They used to say "there is no substitute for cubic inches". Now the saying is "there is no substitute for cubic inches or technology". But if you have both, even better.

As far as removing the emission parts, you won't gain almost anything by doing it. And if you ever try tell to sell it, having that stuff removed will actually lower the resale value. Anyone looking for a nice older truck doesn't want one that's hacked up.
Clean it up good, maintain it well and be proud of your collector truck.

I heard that if I put a ls based engine in I would have to cut the firewall, is that true?

Depending on the oil pan and A/C compressor you use, you might have to notch the frame and cross member, tho.
There are way$ around that.

Sounds like your emissions people aren't very efficient. I had the SS tested the other day...one car in front of me. Took all of 5 minutes.

They still sniff cars? In Missouri, you only get "tested" if you have a car '96 and newer (OBDII) and they just plug into the port and if you don't have codes you pass.

Older cars only go through visual and safety inspection.

Here in California, we have some of the strictest smog laws (1976 to 1999 gets the sniffer test, 2000 and newer get only a plug-in OBD test), but thankfully we DON'T have a safety inspection. I can't imagine it will be that much longer, though, before the state takes advantage of the opportunity to raise revenue and get non-electric cars off the road.

What's wrong with safety inspections? Make sure your wheels aren't going to literally fall off going down the road... not everyone looks after their car properly.

Had one of my first gens. fail because, get this, she could see a drop of oil hanging underneath. Emission testing is a multi-million dollar con and they donate generously to politicians to make sure the money machine keeps rolling. California has very strict emission laws but did it cure their smog.

I have a copy of my state's inspection manual and I only take my truck to shops that I know don't bullshit. Oil leaks aren't even covered. Missouri is also a state you can get away with having your suspension below the scrub line.

I don't need the government telling me my vehicle isn't safe because it has modified suspension, etc.

Depends on how you modified it. You're not the only person on the road.
