I believe the silver box is a relay but can anybody tell me what it's for

Doesn't look like a GM relay. Is that connector next to it for it?

Typical 1st Gen GM relays:

I dont see any of those connectors and the relay is next to the blower motor

Was probably installed by a PO to run an accessory or a replace a factory one with what ever they had handy. Only whoever put it in knows it's purpose or how it is wired.

That is an old school relay. What doesn't work when thats unplugged?

You can put your mutimeter prob in them and lean your multimeter on the windshield to watch it while you flip switches. That will help find what is controlling it, also.


It actually looks like my karmann ghia's starter solenoid or voltage regulator (for the generator, if i remember properly), from 70/71.

That is the blower relay

1992 rcsb 4.3,at 357,000 miles. Rust in Peace
2000 Jimmy 4x4 4dr. 255,000 miles
2002 rcsb, 2.2 at, 289,000miles
1967 C10
2006 Colorado
