1985 s10 4x4 speedometer gear

My speedo gear is chewed up and I can't find a speedo gear for an np207... anybody know where i can find one? I've called many shops, and everyone is saying they're discontinued.

I need an 18 tooth driven gear, i found a 19 tooth on ebay. Can i put the 19 tooth in? Or do i need to change the drive gear as well?

More than likely the other gear is damaged also. You can use the 19 tooth gear just be aware that the MPH will be off. Won’t cause any performance issues.

I looked through the hole, and the drive gear looks like it's in good shape, you don't think that the different tooth count on the driven is gonna bind?

Re: 1985 s10 4x4 speedometer gear

those gears were designed to have certain drive gears mated with certain driven gears.
GM used to put the charts in their Illustrated parts section so choices could be made.
I kinda doubt 1 tooth will matter as to the match, but as stated your speed will be off.
Im pretty sure theres not a different combo of drive and driven gears that will match and give the same
MPH as your factory set.Keep looking for the right one.

Re: 1985 s10 4x4 speedometer gear

The rule of thumb was 1 tooth changes the speedo about 3mph. Iirc, adding a tooth would slow down the speedo relative to vehicle speed. So, if speedo was correct before, at 55 mph, speedo would be showing 52 mph.

Re: 1985 s10 4x4 speedometer gear

there are speedometer correction boxes to fix that small of an error
but then again this is a lot of work on account of giving up your search.

have dealer look up that part number for an 18 tooth and see what other vehicles it fits
then hit the junkyard.
