'96 distributor question

I'm trying to help the lady next door. Her son broke the cap screw holes on the distributor housing. He bought a different distributor, but he bought a adjustable housing one, and it had a pined one in it. Are they not run but a different ecu chip? I was told that there is three different distributors for that year 4.3, and each run a different chip. It runs like crap now, but I do not know if it off a tooth, or in right. I have not checked it yet.

Re: '96 distributor question

Get the correct dist....problem solved. You may have to establish TDC. There are threads and possibly a sticky on the process.

I don't know if it'll work, but you may be able to go through the CMP retard adjustment procedure with that distributor and make it work.
