Obd1

I've for a 87 2.8 tbi. I need some info on what I need to get for tuning the ECM/prom and stuff and recording data. And can it all be done from a laptop?

Re: Obd1

Yes.

I use a Panasonic CF-30 Toughbook with a touch screen. Got it and a cf-28/cf-30 vehicle docking station off ebay for less than 125 for both.

You will need a cable, I've built two so far, one for me and one for Jimmykicker, who has yet to actually use it. I can build you one cheaper than what you will pay for a premade cable.

You will need two programs. Winaldl is good for starting the initial logging of data. TunerPro RT is good for editing the BIN info.

You will need some spare eproms which you can get from your local scrap yard.

You will need a UVC lamp to erase the eproms and, a eprom programmer to write your edited BIN to the blank eprom.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Re: Obd1

How much do you charge for the cable? I'm planning on dropping a 3.4 tbi in soon, and I figure now is as good a time as any to learn to tune a little

Re: Obd1

I'd have to see what the price of the parts are and get back to you.

Re: Obd1

Alright pm me once you find out. I noticed you said 125 for computer and vehicle mount. So I'm assuming I don't need the 500 gb ones just on of the smaller ones right

Personally, I'd recommend a toughbook. There is a cf-30 on ebay right now from a seller called "risenonprofit". It's a good price, and I've bought several from them. No affiliation with them.

You can run what ever windows you want, but the keys on these are good.

I use my cf-30 mainly for tuning my truck, then diagnostics for obd2, and surfing the net.

You can up the ram to 4 gig with standard ram.

I got lucky when I got my cf-30 from them as it had only 2200 hours on it and has a dvd writer. It was about 120 total I think, but then they are local to me, so I picked it up and saved on shipping.

That's my recommendation.

Re: Obd1

I wouldn't bother with the moates stuff.

Re: Obd1

You would have to pull and burn it anyway with the burn 2.

Re: Obd1

TunerProRt is free to use, but has a 10 second nag window.
WinAldl is also free, and I'd HIGHLY suggest starting with that on the tuning.

You will want to turn off somethings using TunerPro before you start data logging though.

You should be able to get started for under 200.
