How much advance at idle can I give the 2.8?

1985 S-10 2.8ltr. Radio delete, 2WD positraction, gauges, halogen lights and off-road tire option (standard tread front, off-terrain tire rear - now running 4 Winterforce tires). Delco gas shocks. Dad was original owner. 95K miles now. Single stage urethene repaint was the summer of 2011 project (now faded, don't buy Eastwood's paint).

10-12 is the setting I use(with vac advance disconnected). Seemsto work well. I am at 6k feet too.

85 S10 Durango 2.8L extcab rwd 36k actual miles.

I remember advancing my modified 83 2.8 but can't remember how much. Try advancing it about 2 degrees at a time and then crank and drive it until you get an adverse affect, like hard to start, pinging, then back up 2 degrees.

S10 blazer 85 2dr 2wd sbc,200 4r trans. 8.5" 3:42 disc brake rear. Quick ratio box,33 mm front bar / 23 mm rear. 2" ds / 1" ds front / 3" ds rear with drop shocks.
S10 blazer 87 2dr 2wd 3.4 700 r4 trans. 7.6 disc brakes w/ thorsen 3"42 .
