High Idle

I suspect I need a new IAC but am just not sure. It idles at about 1100 rpm. I cannot find a vacuum leak. A new IAC is only $39 so no big deal but I hate simply throwing money at a problem. Ideas? Something that makes me suspect the IAC is that the tip has small grooves worn into the sides, deep enough that I can feel them with my finger nail.

Re: High Idle

Have you checked the TPS with a scan gauge for smooth voltage change?

I just bought my S10 2 weeks ago with a high idle issue. I pulled the air cleaner and checked the vacuum lines. Turns out one wasn't attached. Popped it on and threw zip ties on it and boom! All better.

Re: High Idle

Thanks for the heads up.
A lot of folks don't necessarily look for the obvious.

Have you solved your problem yet? Just interested to know what it was.

Re: High Idle

My problem?
Probably a combination of the war in the 60's, the drugs in the 70's, the booze in the 80's, or working outdoors year round in a northern climate the last 25 years.
It hurts getting up every morning, but "pain is your friend - it let's you know you're still alive".

Ooh, were you asking the OP about his problem?
