Help Identifying a Sensor

Hi there, I have an '87 S10 2.8 v6, and am struggling to identify a sensor/sending unit that has deteriorated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help Identifying a Sensor

That should be your coolant temp sensor for your temperature guage.

I thought that was the sensor next to the water neck on the intake. I just replaced that one.

The one next to the thermostat is for the ECM.

K so are they both identical sensors and one is temperature for the ecm and one is for the temperature gauge?

My Haynes manual refers to the thermostat location as the "engine coolant temperature sensor" and the cyclinder head location "coolant temperature sensor". Theres only a coolant temperature sensor available online so I'm assuming they're the same piece in both locations?

No, not the same part. That should be blatantly obvious, just by looking at them.

The connectors are different. You could probably cut and splice the new connect on and use the same style for both.

Yeah you're right, the connector tops are just different. The one on the intake seems to be called coolant temperature sensor, and the one on the head a coolant temperature sender. Rockauto has both. Mystery solved thanks guys.

Re: Help Identifying a Sensor

RAVEN is correct - they are NOT the same...not just the connection is different but internally the way the pass/alter the signal is different

Pay close attention...one is WITH GAUGE and one is WITHOUT (light)
