re: Official Fastest 2.2L 1/4 Times

It wouldn't be that hard to run 14's if the truck was pushin' 15# of boost, was hooking up & had a good low gear to multiply torque.
A 700R4 trans with a 4.10 or lower axle (lower the better) &posi trac, would do great.
Simple math is key here.
2.2L = 132 cu in
2.2L w/14.7# boost (double atmosphere) = 264 cu in.
most v8's stock put out like 80% volumetric efficincy so it looks like this
355 cu in x .80% = 284 cu in.

Since a turbo properly set up will deliver 100% volumetric efficency plus the 2.2 has half the reciprocating drag. Less pistons & lighter crank etc.

Anyway... If we reversed the 2.2 w/ 14.7# boost to an normally aspirated
it would be something like this

264 devided by 80% = 330 cu in...

Properly geared a 327 chevy (stock) with low gears & good grip will push most s10's well into the mid 14 second range.

The big advantage that the turbocharged 2.2 would have over a big v8 is the absense of brutal torque so the 0-60 times would be easier on the hook.
i.e. most v8's have a little trouble with smooth launches & have wheel spin...

Time slips can be fabricated so I wouldn't even go there...

One final thought my friends....
A rocket will get you there the fastest, but nothing sounds like a v8... ~Jim

7-12
2.0 60'
lots of heat soak, launched at 2300, (brakes wouldn't hold boost) had to adjust the rear brakes up after that pass but was fighting heat soak (about 100* out).
anyway first pass was a 13.86 followed by two 13.96's and then a 14.1 in about a 30-40 mph headwind. decided to call it a night after that
I'll post exact timeslip details when i get off work.

The stock kit is set up for 8 psi. I have a MBC but, I dont' feel comfortable enough running more boost considering the Manual FMU is a 12:1.

re: Official Fastest 2.2L 1/4 Times

A lot of it has to do with track prep, as well as atmospheric conditions at the time of the race. Plus, with all of the mods listed when I did that run, there was no tuning done. In other words, our computers reference a Volumetric Efficiency table for a specific throttle angle and engine rpm to determine load and proper fueling. An intake is great, but increasing the VE capability without changing the figures in the computer will net you next to nothing but a nice view under the hood. Also, I have even more mods and a bored motor and ran last friday a best of 18.8 @ 71mph, which I can lend to the intake air temps of 147 degrees. Hot air = no power.

And fuel effecient. Easy to work compared to a v6.
If you want a stock dd 2.2l all the way.
Wana try and make it fast? At best, it will just not be slow!

I got 13.6 sec out of a 1995 325i with a diet(2200pnds), intake, exuast ,chip
Thats just a quick car.

A turbo kit or nitrous ill touch 12s. That is fast
More n more 400hp-600hp cars are released everyday.
Cars doin 240-275 mph
Being fast these days is a real challenge!
Whats the point of straping a big turbo to to
Your truck if a v6 camery will still beat you?
?

You are an idiot and have no clue what you are talking about, and that line in bold points that out. I have beaten V8 Silverados that are fully decked out N/A (exhaust, chip, CAI etc). No need in me discussing it any further.

Re: Official Fastest 2.2L 1/4 Times

I've touched on high 13's nearly 5000 feet above sea level when I was running my smaller turbo. With the larger turbo and being unable to brake boost off the line due to overwheling the drum brakes, I ran a 14 flat at 106 with a dead asleep 3.0 60'.
Now with disk on the rear I can brake boost to around 3500 rpm. I just need time and new wheels to clear the brakes and mount my slicks.
my s10 also scales around 3200lbs with me in it. In retrospect your bmw looks pretty slow to my s-10...

How or who did you have plumb up the system? Was curious about spooling the 2.2 but didn't know if it was worth it cost wise.

Re: Official Fastest 2.2L 1/4 Times

cost is all in the perception, is it worth restoring an old classic spending 50+ grand on it? To some yes, to others no.

Re: Official Fastest 2.2L 1/4 Times

Hey CS, I love your truck, but I gotta throw this tech point out there. When it comes to disc v. drum brakes, disc brakes are obviously better at dissipating heat and stopping from speed. However, properly adjusted drum brakes are better at "clamping" an already stopped vehicle on the starting line because of the much larger contact area. With NHRA class cars, we used to "downgrade" the front brakes on 1970-ish Camaros, Novas, Chevelles, etc - from disc to drum in order to hold at the line more easily. You still see lots of drum downgrades in stock Eliminator classes, but SuperStock has a lot of transbrakes now, so it's moot.

Well all I can say is I'd adjust them at the track and stand on the brake pedal and they wouldnt hold above 2500rpm . I think I did hydroboost at the same time as my rear disks but now I can hold to 3200+ before it starts to over power the rear brakes

Something is definitely odd here. I have a 2000 2.2 with 5 speed. My 1/4 mile time is 15.58 and all I have done is cold air new plugs new injectors and proformance exhuast with cat. The others ibe read with similar mods are in the 17 or 18s
