Mine is the 5 speed. His is the auto. Both will be done totally different. So here we go, here is mine as of today:

I didnt like where the header located the turbo so I made some piping.

And went one stage colder on the plugs, NGK TR5s

Now, the pipe will be done tomorrow, its only halfway, the turbo will be positioned on top of the header. Every 90 degree bent has been tapered so the exhaust flows smoothly.

You know, jgs precision sells manifold kits.
you could of built a top mount manifold without the adapters and such.
I would of mentioned sooner but thought you were running ac

I know, I thought about that and the manifold sort of fell in my lap so I went with it. If it causes issues with spooling, I will build one.

I did a rebuild but the only performance thing I did was a 3 angle valve job and a port and polish. I paid $140 for the turbo.

4 of them are on their way. All oil lines are hooked up, all I need is the tubing, BOV, wideband (ordering friday), boost gauge, and a turbo blanket. I hope to have it all in around 2 weeks.

Nice, I hope to do something similar soon. What size cold side pipe are you running? I'm thinking about a 2" pipe would work fine.

Im going to run 3"in to the inlet of the turbo, then 2.5 for the rest. Exhaust will also be 2.5

Updates!

One new hurdle is the accelerator cable. I need to move it towards the passenger side about an inch. The downpipe is mocked up. Im waiting on the V-band flanges to get here. I am ordering the wideband on Friday. The Blow off valve will be ordered Tuesday. Then all the piping on wednesday.

I also wrapped the header and up pipe in the new DEI titanium wrap. Then I put a aluminum deflection shield on the top of the header.

I Am I cannot wait i have begun saving money a majority of my money goes into my truck anyways haha so i should have no problem saving up to get my turbo put in and everything should be fairly quick to / then when i am done with my schooling i am going to do an engine rebuild to handle more power, Like cs is doing and ima go all out with that i think.

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

I have a 56mm TB, e-fan, port and polish, some tuning, (had a header and intake), and 8mm wires, and a smaller alternator pulley. I think I was getting close to 130 at the wheels. I have a button clutch that is used in dirt track cars too. From what I gather I should expect 80 more HP

I would be very impressed if you got to 130 wheel with those mods. that would be 40+ hp over stock.
with the turbo depending on boost, setup, and tunning 200+ wheel hp is not that hard

Never had it on the dyno but that clutch made a pretty good difference on putting the power down.

yea its great. didnt have to mod anything cause my down pipe was the same flange.

the install sucked thou cause i went to my cousins house to use his air tools and then his friend came over with his infant so i used hand tools for the entire install which took about 4 hours lol.

base hp is very low about 90-120 actual hp, with bolt on turbo bigger injectors and some basic tuning u can get over 200 on 5-10lbs of boost! u feel it right away but eventually u get used to it and want more lol, which is why im building mine up hopefully soon!

yeah but that is why you keep off the boost for a bit. like my truck i havent gone past 3K RPM in a LONG time. when i do and shift though the gears to 5K i am surprised how much power the tutu had! only because i forgot lol.

Sorry for the shit updates. I have pics but not much time to upload them due to my changing work hours.

I am waiting on one more 90 degree bend and the cold side piping will be done. I need a cobalt ss map sensor, and I have to finish the rest of the exhaust. Then I can start the tune.

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

This guy Joe, over at J-body.org sent me this, I would like to do this instead of getting a new map sensor if possible:
Quote:
FIND OUT WHAT RPM YOUR BOOST KICKS IN AT 1/4 THROTTLE, 1/2 THROTTLE, 3/4 THROTTLE AND FULL THROTTLE. DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE LONG WHILE DOING THIS AS IT WILL LEAN OUT AND DESTROY THE MOTOR. WHEN YOU FIND OUT WHEN THE BOOST KICKS IN AT DIFFERENT THROTTLE POSITIONS THEN YOU CAN CHANGE THE EFFICIENCY NUMBERS IN THE BLOCKS AT THAT RPM. AN N/A ENGINE IS ONLY 80% EFFICIENT SO IF YOU PUT OVER 100% EFFICIENCY IN ANY OF THE BLOCKS AT AN RPM WHERE BOOST IS PRESENT THE COMPUTER WILL ADD FUEL. THE THROTTLE % IS REFERRED IN HPTUNERS AS KILOPASCALS. 0 KPA IS IDLE. 100 KPA IS FULL THROTTLE. FOR EXAMPLE: IF YOUR ENGINE PRODUCES BOOST AT 3/4 THROTTLE AT 2500 RPM THEN YOU WANT TO CHANGE ALL THE BLOCKS AT 3/4 THROTTLE(~75 KPA) AT 2500 RPM AND ABOVE TO OVER 100% EFFICIENCY. YOU WILL NEED TO DO THIS FOR THE COMPLETE MAP THAT IS IN BOOST RANGE AND TEST DRIVE TO MAKE SURE IT IS IN THE 11.5:1 AFR RANGE UNDER BOOST. THIS WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD INITIAL TUNE THEN YOU CAN FINE TUNE IT BASED ON YOUR DATALOGS.

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

11.5:1 Is too rich for gas. I still dont know why soo many tune like this...
as for doing it that way. you can and its basically what I have now.
but turbo's build boost based on load not rpm and throttle angle.
you will get into several situations. up hill, gear change, temp, etc that will change what boost you have and what engine speed.
resulting in lean or rich spots in certain gear changes and situations.
you can drive around this but its a very crude way of boost tuning.
fueling will also change where the turbo spools. low boost this isnt that big of a deal but its a pita above 10psi.

up to you but for me to do 2 bar i have to figure out dual computers and its still worth it to me.

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

Adjusted the VE offset to 37%, i think it could make more power but my AFR is 10.5:1- 13.5:1 on 91 octane bue now after a few runs its acting like it wants to stall and die. What is the KR* on HPtuners? mine goes into the red under boost.

have you pulled any timing?
what rpm/ throttle angle are you getting KR at? What is the corresponding afr when this happens?

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

look at your kr on your data table it shows how many degrees of knock ur getting, anything over 3-5 is typicaly not good esp in boost! 1-2 here n there is ok but still only takes just that one little bit to fudge something up! do some logging and see where ur rpm, tps% is at when it happens and u may be able to adjust it by looking on the table when it happens and adjust the timing but u got to be careful how much you adjust, if you dont know how i wouldnt do it, i would take it to a professional! not just the gauge, i think its like number 1 or 2 table, if u have your wideband keep an eye on that as well, ive had good afr ratios and still got knock before so sometimes i was unsure if it was really kr or a glitch!

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

i caused one of my lifters to start tapping on 8psi last month..lol i changed a bad timing chain that had some slap in it, and i noticed a difference right away and it messed up a lifter it was pulling so good too , easy fix though, just waiting for the body shop to fix my truck hopefully still waiting for estimate from insurance since i got in a accident last week

Re: ablues10's and 2lowan2slow's turbo builds

I will upload the data this weekend. I dont have much time right now but the knock is pretty bad. I think it happens between shifts. I am also going to pull the plugs and do a compression check.
