[How To] AVS Door Actuator Install
This article will address the installation of one of the easiest door popper kits on the market: the AVS #SDK11. The unit is 100% bolt-on for 94+ S-series trucks and 95+ S-series SUVs. Once the solenoid is mounted, most of the wiring is plug and play, with just the neccessary contacts such as power/ground needing to be spliced into the truck. Follow along as we install this innovative product in just a couple hours!
A shot of the whole unit

A better shot of how it mounts

In this pic, you can see how smart they are: they put in a stop so the door lock can never be locked again.

This is the first step in removing the door latch from the door. This is done with a torx #30; remove all three screws that hold it in place. You will have to remove the rods that are still connected to it that run to the door handle and lock. I don't have them so I can't show a pic of that, but they just snap out quite easily.

Next, you will need to remove the rear window track. Take out the two 10 mm bolts and pull it away and down.

Now that the track is out of the way, you have to pull out the latch. Now that you have the latch out you can see the mount holes.

Remove the small plastic holder....

Screw it in with the 3 supplied screws USING A HAND TOOL ONLY!

Now connect the motor to the latch arm

Mine was missing the nut and bolt so I used a tap to put threads in the small plastic arm of the motor.

I also had to shave down the small plastic arm to fit the latch arm, then I screwed in the bolt.

Reinstall with the torx screws and you're done!

Now repeat with the other door. There are several different ways to wire this up, so I will leave that up to you.
DO NOT PLUG ANY PLUGS BACK INTO THE LATCH!!! There is no need for them.
I did run into one problem: the mounting plate hit the body line in the door, so I ground it down to fit better (this has been resolved in current production models)

Now install the door popper

Take out the black plastic cover and slide the popper in

Install the nut from behind

Install two screws and your project is complete!

Each door only took me 10-15 minutes. The install is very straight forward and seems to be very reliable.
Good job AVS!

I'll add the plugs thing later tonight.

The AVS website really blows.
So how's the quality on these? I mean, it is AVS, but they are only 150 bones. No problems so far?

Where is the avs website? even if it blows
