Pictures and steps on how to cut the bumpstop brackets off.

first start with a thin grinding disk. thinner is better in this case. use saftey glasses and a hooded jacket because the sparks hit your hair/neck and stings. this way your eyes are fine and a hooded jacket protects most of your neck

so you trimmed the bumpstops down it's still a terrible ride. here is what you are looking at.

get the die grinder and just cut along the edge making sure to get the spot weld and not go into the frame. just start from one end and start grinding on top of the welds

this is what it should like like when starting it out

work your way across the top weld

as you cut along the top weld, you can stick a fat flat head screw driver in to pry the welds apart. This also tends to make the welds crack so its easier to cut

in this pic you can see that the welds don't go all the way through. when you finish the front, just cut one edge on the left. you will have to turn the die grinder to the side; watch out for the sparks. when you cut the side you can stick in a flat head screwdriver or a pry bar to get some more space

now that you have it open just wiggle in back and forth. The front welds should snap right off

now just smooth out the welds. Get some rustoleum spray paint and paint the exposed area. You should be left with this

now here what it looks like from underneath. most of the time, i just get liquid nails and some rubber and glue them together. Then i put them on the bottom of the frame. this truck i did today was a 01 zq8 wiith a 2 3 drop and the back rode very rough; now it rides smooth. Try it out and you'll be happy.

Unless you bottom out, it doesn't effect the ride. However, for the small amount of times that you DO bottom out, it keeps your axle from hitting the frame. Metal on metal is bad.

i just did mine this weekend, my blazer is droped 3/4 or 3/5 cant really tell and its a dream, it was alot tuffer then this guy made it sound with my 87 lol i ended up getting frusterated and just hacking them off peice by piece, i couldnt get the welds from 87 to crack so i just well cut um off lol but it helps alot i hit the bumps on my road that at 30 would normally slam the back end around, and it road like a dream wata big difference just a stupid peice of metal with a rubber end makes

Again, this is only necessary if your truck is dropped more than that of a stock zq8. So if you put a 3" drop, you MIGHT need to.

Bottomline, if you have more than 3in's of drop in the rear, I would.

yeah, i have a 3 or 3 and a half inch drop in the rear and i can feel it hit hard when there are big bumps, so this would be ok to do to my truck to keep it from hitting so hard?
