How to lube your front end
This to-do was basically done to show where the Zerk fittings are. It's a really easy project. It took me probably 30-45 minutes total, only because I had to find all of the fittings myself. Next time, I can't see it taking more than 5-10 minutes. This would be the easiest to do during an oil change. It's supposed to be done every 3000 miles anyways, and you're already under there to change the oil.
(This was done on a 2000 Blazer, but im sure the zerk fittings are in the same location on all 2nd gen's, and probably pretty similar on the 1st gen's too.)
1- First off, you'll need:
- A grease gun (the one in the picture was bought from Advance Auto Parts - $13.00....dont buy one without a flex hose...the $4 dollar upgrade is worth it)
- A grease cartidge (Advance auto parts - $3.00)
- A few towels/rags
- A flashlight or a trouble light
- Wheel ramps (not needed, but it makes it a LOT easier)
- Rubber gloves (believe me, you want rubber gloves, it makes cleanup a lot easier)
2- Put the grease cartridge into the gun, grab your flashlight and rags and crawl under the truck.
3- Wipe off all the fittings in the pictures, and then push the tip onto the zerk fitting, squeeze the handle and inject the grease into the fitting (im not positive how much to use...but i squeezed until a little grease came out around the fitting.)
- Fittings 1 and 2 are easiest to reach from the wheel well, all others are easily accessible from under the truck.
- Fittings 7 and 8 are slightly difficult to get on, you may need a 90* angled tip to get it on. Although I had no problem using the regular tip
4- Hit all 11 fittings, and you're done.
5- Go drink a beer
