Washington

Alright guys, I thinking of doing what I never thought I would do. Move to the Northwest. I am currently in the Army and I am on track to get stationed at Ft Stewart, GA. I have someone going to Ft. Lewis, WA wanting to trade stations with me. I havent decided yet, but it is around the Tacoma area which would put me about 45mins from Seattle, which is great for my daughter becuase of Arthrogryposis specialist at the Childrens Hospital there. How is life in Washington? Does it really rain all the time? Is the area around Ft. Lewis nice for a family? Thanks guys

Re: Washington

One my best friends growing up and all in school is at Ft. Lewis right now. He's been there about a year or so. Not living on the base, but in Lacey. He thinks it's great there.

Within reach of Canada, beach to the west, big city of Seattle and more open country to the east.

Re: Washington

this coming from a kid in monroe..lol kidding dude.. Seattle is very nice, it has one of the best childrens hospitals in the world and on e ofthe best cancer treatment centers in the world. Not to mention the economy up here, Kenworth, Boeing, Microsoft...I can go on... Being a car guy, the weather does put a damper on it, but there is sooooo much more to do when it isnt perfect for track days or cruising. You have a large body of water (puget sound) two huge lakes (Lake Union and Lake Wahington) you have the Olympic rainforest, AT LEAST 2 huge animal sanctuaries like Northwest trek, not including woodland park zoo and Point defiance zoo. you have mt ranier for hiking and like 4 different snow ski destinations within 2 hours of seattle, if you travel like 3 hours east you have the dunes (desert) GREAT for 4 wheeling or riding quads... There is alot to do up here, if you are a clubber, there are some TERRIFIC dance clubs in Tacoma and Seattle, if you are into rock like I am you can catch some killer music in downtown seattle at the central where Alice and chains had played, Nirvana, pearl jam, all those guys have been though the Central, down in Tacoma you have Hells Kitchen.. that rock bar owns all....if you get the chance I would spend some time up here, its worth the experience.

Re: Washington

Lol @ people that complain about rain.

I like the rain.

AND FYI, it's not like you will be living in Seattle. Tacoma is even before Seattle. Seattle would just be a place to visit.

If you live outside of your base, like in Lacey(which i haven't been up to my friends yet) you can live in some real nice areas.

Re: Washington

Ft. Lewis is one of the nicest posts in the Army. I love it here. The rain gets a little old, but you find other stuff to do. PM me if you have ant Lewis specific questions.

Re: Washington

Spokane is on the eastern border of washington and Idaho...and it is roughly a 6 hour drive from Seattle..if you are doin the speed limit. It gets colder than shit on the east side of the mountains.. you get BAD winters and HOT summers..definate seasons for sure. Seattle is about direct opposite of spokane....the only thing the same is they both start with "S"..lol

more like 400!

yeah the weather here is about the best you can get in the states. You actually get every season. Sun all the time would get boring. We dont really get bad storms either...maybe some strong winds but no hurricane/tropical storm kind of stuff.

Well I am might not be going now. My sergeant said it might be too late. So I dont know. I still have the chance to go there through EFMP. Since my daughter is disabled, I need a good set of Dr's. Seattle is the place I need to be for my daughters condition due to the Arthrogryposis Dr's at the Childrens Hosp. there. I will keep you guys updated though!

Re: Washington

I am originally from SoCal, but live in the Puget Sound area. I currently work on Ft. Lewis. It does rain a lot and if you have MS it is the worst place on the planet for it. There is a lot of stuff to do if you have an imagination. If not you may be a little bored. The base, or "Post" is a nice one but I try to stay away from it as much as possible. As for a place to live... there are nice areas and bad ones. The bad ones are not as bas as you would think. I have in various places in WA from Everett to Olympia and I like Tacoma (Tac-Town) the best. It is by Ft. Lewis. The only real complaint I have about this place is the People. They can't drive. Like merging on the freeway at 40mph and changing lanes without looking. I think too many people on cell phones. This is the only state that the slow lane moves faster than the rest. Other than that, it is a hippy state and very relaxed. Otherwise Blazerpimp and Rhotpursuit are about right on. Good Luck whatever you decide.

I drive the I-5 corridor between Tacoma and Olympia every day and the only place that consistantly has problems is at the main gate, Madigan and Thorne Lane. The people entering the freeway from the post make a beeline to the inside lane without so much as a glance over their shoulder causing at the least quick slowdowns, or an accident...

BTW....welcome to T-Town....
