Re: Gas Powered R/C cars

Without looking it up in the paperwork, if you brought these engines to me, Id set the high speed needles 3 turns out, low speed set flush (head of low needle flush to the outside of the housing it is in) and have the idle screw set to open the carb around 2mm. This is an all around decent ballpark for those motors. If the OS is a small block you might go down closer to 2 turns out for starters.

If they have been sitting for some time, especially if you left fuel in them, tear the engines apart and give them a good cleaning, dont be suprised to find rust if they were stored improperly. Upon reassembly, use new fuel line, glow plugs, and seal up the backplate and the base of the carb with some RTV. This will cover 90% of the problems people have with getting new motors to run after some down time.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Gas Powered R/C cars

High speed will be where the fuel line connects to, low speed will be in the barrel (whether it be a slide or rotary carb), or it will be on the carb body itself, completely opposite side of the throttle slide or barrel. Idle screw is usually stuck on the outside of the carb body, either on the front or back of the venturi, sometimes they have springs on them.

Clockwise on the needles leans the mix, counterclockwise richens the mix. Clockwise ont he idle screw, opens the gap of the barrel down inside the venturi, resulting in a higher idle, while counterclockwise closes the gap, lowering the idle.

Always start tuning the high speed, then the low speed, then set your idle.

If you have to raise your idle to keep it running before youre done tuning, then fine. Just be sure not to go buck-wow on the low speed until the high is set.

matt, no problem man, you can go ahead and take them for a while and tune them till you got it running good. and yes, you can play with them just don't break them please. on is brand new, only has run for probably 5min. the other has been flipped many times and got off of tons of jumps. let me know when you would like me to bring them to you.
