Re: So Cal General Discussion
its 150-200 to pass if you knwo the right people but you are to late, no one will touch your car if it failed 3 times, to risky.
Honestly I love this forum but they are really cheap. We only get 40 messages where other forums give anywhere from 100-300. If you pay more though you can have more messages, whats up with that? and ya they just had a big server drive, plus they have those ads when you click to the classifieds section that take up the whole page like "youve been chosen to get a free xbox 360" haha. Re: So Cal General Discussion
why wouldnt anyone touch my truck if its failed smog already. If they use the readings of a truck with the same specs how would the DMV know?

Re: So Cal General Discussion
Also, you kow how the test goes, one of the things they do is to plug the trucks computer in at the OBDII port and into the DMV computer. If the truck was the same spec and it passed that's cool, but I believe the DMV Computer reads the VIN out of the computer,or t's one of the things that the computer asks for, so they might be able to tell it wasn't yours. Why is it failing so bad? How much have you spent on it already? |

Re: So Cal General Discussion
Ive replaced the spark plugs, coils, O2 sensors, gas cap and ran sea foam through it. I noticed on start up it emits a fairly strong gas smell but doesnt continue unless I push the pedal to the floor. Any ideas? Its a 98 2.2l auto Last edited by Smilodon : 03-05-2007 at 04:30 PM. |

Re: So Cal General Discussion
Hey guys haven't posted on here in sometime. Anyway, I'm selling my blazer but figured I'd get a better response in Cali then I would in Nebraska lol Anyway, I'm willing to drive the Blazer to Cali for delivery. Reason being is I'm planning a trip home to visit my parents in Rancho. if you know anyone who may interested give me a pm or a email. Right now I'm selling for $11k but price is obviously negotiable. Need to sell though, I'm sick of only getting to drive it for 5 months out of the year. lol Here's a few pics.
![]() ![]() ![]() And the backseats are back in and it now has a envoy front end. I know this isn't the classifieds, but sometimes word travels a little faster. Thanks guys. |

Re: So Cal General Discussion
Check the cat, like everyone said, and look for codes.................Check your mass Airflow sensor as well.
The the list goes from there, Idle air control, Map, MAF, EGR too.......................... I say MAF sensor because the problem you describe sounds like the truck isn't metering the air correctly at part or full throttle. On Start up, it'll add a larger amount of fuel to get it to fire then what it needs to idle at. Which might explain the rich smel lyou get at start up. The rich smell at part throttle/full throttle could be a blown out cat, or a malfunctioning sensor creating too rich of an air fuel ratio. Do you have a cold air kit? Sometimes the oils required to clean the filter elements can damage the little sensor bars. A can of electrical contact cleaner from the local parts house would be a good place to start. Try cleaning it and see if it runs better. Also, Has it ever gotten wet? Do you have any driveability problems? Last edited by dawgnutz : 03-06-2007 at 01:34 PM. |

Re: So Cal General Discussion
I have a feeling that might be it. I guess the 98 s-10's had defective factory cat converters and GM has a deal where they replace cats one time free of charge on 98s only if they fall between 80 and 100K miles. I had them replace mine the middle of last year and its more heavy duty compared to factory but whos to say they didnt put a used one on since it was free of charge. How do I check to see if the cats bad besides hearing rattling and the sulfur smell which I dont have? Yes I do have a cold air kit. I cleaned it about 3 months ago. Are you asking if the cold air filter had gotten wet? Can you give me a rundown on how the electrical contact cleaner works. No driveability problems that I can notice Last edited by Smilodon : 03-06-2007 at 06:51 PM. |

Nice, clean looking Blazer. Not feeling the rims to much but to each their own. Let me know if you do end up driving it out to Cali (Rancho) as I live there and wouldn't mind seeing it in person. Good luck with the sale. |

). The directions are on the can, but basically, you lightly spray the bars of the MAF sensor, and IF you have to, use a cotton swab (i.e.Q-tip), to swipe soils off the bars, becareful, these things are pretty delicate. Make sure it drys before you put anything back on and remove it from power before doing any cleaning. It's flammable and It's an Aeresol Can (SP?) style product and can be found in the auto parts store near the other cleaning products and around the WD40. Additionally, most manufacturers recommend that you clean your filter every three months, (like you did), or everytime you change your oil. I do mine when I change my oil, I'm already in there so I just get it done then. Dirty filters DO impeed Air flow, and can make the MAF ask for more fuel, or give the Rich smell. Make sure not to over oil the filter, Blah-bla-blah-bla-blah (everything everyone tells you......... The reason I was asking about the Cold air kit and if it got wet , is it's how close most of the filter elements are in relation to the MAF sensor. Even a small amount of water can mess with the MAF. I damaged mine by driving throuhg some high water once. It never acted right after that and eventually I replaced it. I got a rebuilt one for $89.00, a new O.E.M. one or a Aftermarket could be anywhere from $200-300 dolars depending on who you see. The only way I know how to check a Cat is to measure the inlet temp and compare it to the outlet temp. I'm not sure what the variation is allowed to be though, and this usualy is alot easier if you have one of those infared temp/thermometer guns. Hope this helps man! ![]() |

Re: So Cal General Discussion
THRICE that is a sickkk truck. You took off the extreme kit and went envoy? if I had the cash I would definately be interested in it but right now couldnt pull it.
I think the main thing with everyone selling their trucks like was said before is alot of people have outgrown them. They got their trucks new or a couple years old back in high school and couldnt afford to go up till later(which is now). The younger crowd are buying newer trucks because their parents want them driving something new. I think that bagged trucks will never be like out of style its just that there arent alot of new comers to the scene and to many people are having families and things to tend to instead. I still will always have one bagged truck around no matter what though haha. |
