Exclamation Y-Pipe Group Buy, most likely to happen!

http://store.racing-solutions.org/

Go to that website.

He has NOT listed on his site yet, but I have talked to him on the phone, and he said he can build any type of header or pipe with his mandrel machines.

He said he's going to check some of his worker's S10's to see if they have a 96-Up automatic or manual, to work from.

I sent him two photo's of SLP's old Y-Pipe. He should receive them soon. He just needed something to go by.

You guys need to CALL HIM.

If ANYONE of you live even within' 100 miles of him, he will GLADLY take a doner truck and start up Y-Pipe production!

Remember, once he has a blueprint made up, he will have it on hand, anytime someone places an order, he will fab it right up and ship it out!

So guys, if you want a Y-pipe for your S10, sign up on this thread.

And if ANYONE knows the specs on the SLP Pipe, list it! So far all I know, is 2.25 OD stainless tubing. Sold for $230 shipped when they were being made.

We were discussing that it should be within' a 1/4 inch of the tranny.

If he can use one of his employees trucks, then he will do so.

He's willing to make one for both the Auto's and 5spd's.

What would REALLY help, is SOMEONE that already has a SLP Y-Pipe, to unbolt it and send it to him, so he can make an exact replica.

SURELY someone on this board is willing to put his stock Y-Pipe back on for a week or two, and ship his or her SLP Y-Pipe to him, so he can make a replica! I'm sure he will take excellent care of it, and not harm it in any way! If anyone is willing to do so, SPEAK UP.

I'm in if the pipe/price is comparable to the SLP and he'll ship to Canada.

I think I can come up with more pics of it. I know Scott 750 was the one who had
them.

I found this old post with pics from Joe. Maybe it will help.

This would be cool for people without exhaust shops around, but it would cost just as much (if not less) and be easier to just have one custom made for your ride at an exhaust shop if you want one IMO.

I checked 5-6 shops locally. most wouldn't do it and the few that would wanted a minimum of $400 plus taxes. Shops around here are so busy that they don't want to bother with stuff like that

I just got off the phone with him. He says that he can make a fixture up in 1 day or so based off of your SLP Y-Pipe.

SO, I'll PM you with more details.

He says he WILL put this Y-Pipe into production! And he said he can also make a another one especially for manual trannys. The only difference would be that they hang 1 inch lower in the cross-section only.

So guys, keep signing up for this Y-Pipe!

Here's the problem with most exhaust companies.....

90% of them do NOT do mandrel bends.

So if you got a pressure bent AKA crush bent Y-Pipe. Instead of 2.25 inches of flow, you would ONLY have 1 7/8 or even worse in most cases, 1 3/4 inches of flow.

Remember, your exhaust will ONLY flow as great as its weakest point!

Just like my friend that dynoed his SS after cutting out his bends on his custom cat-back and replacing them with Mandrel elbows, he gained 8 or so HP.

That's good for 1 tenth. But most people just want sound. Problem is, most people ALSO don't know that Mandrel bents sound BETTER!

So tell your local exhaust companies that do that old-school crush bent shit to take it and shove it up their ass!

Well what would you define as "crush bent", is that the type where the radius of the bend is actually rippled to make the angle? Both exhaust shops I've had work done at in different states do not have that, my bends are smooth, the bends are not exactly the same diameter as a straight piece but are certainly not rippled like I described earlier.

On the manual y pipe I am not sure it would need to be a full 1" lower than the automatic or slp modeled y pipe, I would think that might be on the edge of being too low possibly but not sure.

Re: Y-Pipe Group Buy, most likely to happen!

I always though this was a pretty good explanation why mandrel bends vs
pressure bends are preferred..

http://www.4customexhaust.com/mandrel_bending.htm

This is basically what almost all exhaust shops do is pressure bends. They
are not like the crush bends with the ripples, but pressure bends to change
the shape of the tubing. So if one is after a truly smooth exhaust pipe system
then mandrel is the only way to go. I also thing 2 3/4 pipe would be perfect
for those engines that have mods to them. It's not easy to find though.

Here's another source from Bob's Muffler..

http://www.bobsmuffler.com/muffler_myths.htm

That is a nice explanation, it's what I though but wasn't sure because I have actually seen the rippled bends on a few trucks recently, so then yes I also have pressure bends...

Ether way, would SOMEONE ELSE read this thread and volunteer to send his/her Y-Pipe off for 1 week, that's it!

If nobody can do this for the ton's of guy's out there wanting a SLP Y-Pipe, then hell, I'll pay the guy as much as possible to get him to take a 97, 98, 99 S10 and make one off of that.

IF someone would just put their stock Y-Pipe on for ONE WEEK, and send their SLP Y-Pipe off to this guy, then ..........

I WILL PAY FOR SHIPPING BOTH WAYS. AND I'LL PAY $50 FOR YOUR TROUBLE OF TAKING IT OFF AND PUTTING IT BACK ON. I'M DEAD SERIOUS.

How can ANYONE pass up that offer?

i don't think its that people aren't willing to send their slp pipes in, i think there just aren't that many people here that have them (and if they do have maybe they've tossed their stockers?). maybe you can try making a new thread directed towards owners of the SLP pipes to get their attention? if you already had an SLP pipe you may not read this thread

Re: Y-Pipe Group Buy, most likely to happen!

It's not a matter of whether we get an SLP pipe or not. It would be nice to have something to start with, but we have access to truck we will be using next week to fabricate the prototype.

I'm probably going to do a 2.25" version for 2.5" exhausts and a 2.5" version that would work with a 3.0" exhaust. I know the truck we will be using wants a 3.0" system.

Good to see you made it to this thread!

I think the 94-95 is different than the 96-99. And the 2000-2003 don't have a way to "bolt it on". Reason being is the Y-Pipe extends to the pre-cat, and full cat. No 3 bolt flange like the earlier years. BUT, it will still fit the 2000-2003, only problem is most people are going to have to cut their pre-cat off, and use a filler pipe in between.

OR, you could make a custom Y-Pipe and Intermediate Pipe with high-flow cat that will work on 2000-2003 models.

Here's a thread to show you pictures of the 2000-Up

Are you having probs getting the nuts off the studs at the exhaust manifold to
y-pipe ? You may have to use a torch to heat them up to remove. I let em
soak for a day of so with PB and then use the loosening, tightening method
for removing them. It takes a heck of a long time, but most times works.
You let em soak, try loosening a bit, then tightening a bit, spray some more,
same thing again until they start to come loose. You don't want to snap
the studs, so you just want to do a little bit at a time with not a lot of force.

If you take your time, the nuts will loosen most times. If not, bust out the torch.

Just be patient. Don't rush it and then kill your bolts or worse, the Y-Pipe, LOL.

Just remember how awesome this will be for us N/A Guys, to have an EXACT replica of the SLP Y-Pipe.....

And the boosted guys, to have the SAME THING only in a 2.5 inch.

And remember, he's going to make them for both Auto's and Manuals.

What does the SLP y look like anyway. Any pics. I have a custom y on my '03 but It doesnt look like it flows as good as it could and I hope to supercharge it pretty soon so I need to step up from the 2.25 anyway.
