Y-Pipe?

are there benefits to a y-pipe? I have a single in dual out muffler into dual pipes and im going to change mufflers and I have the option of single in single out to a ypipe and then out to dual pipes ....or single in dual out muffler into dual pipes. Is the y-pipe a good or a bad thing???

Re: Y-Pipe?

The stock size of a y-pipe on a 96+ s-series is tiny. A common exhaust mod is to get that pipe re-made in 2 1/4". I noticed significant gains by doing this in my old supercharged blazer, and my current stock V6 xtreme.

Re: Y-Pipe?

i dont think thats what he meant.... it sounds like you were looking at doing a "y" after the muffler? and no, i dont see any benefit of that.... car companies do them before the cat to balance exhaust flow from both banks, but after the muffler wouldnt help you imo.....
tho the gm full size trucks (some of them ) had a tiny one right after the muffler

SH-60B can only hope to improve
Re: Y-Pipe?

The car companies install Y pipes into a single exhaust because it's cheaper, period. The Y pipe offers you no performance benefit, so it is a "bad thing".

I'm sure you have an explanation for why you get all around more power with a H/X pipe as opposed to separate exhaust for each cylinder bank too.

Re: Y-Pipe?

The thing this gentleman forgot to mention is that he has a 2.2 (as stated in a different thread), so these Y-pipe links won't help him. Again, help is only help if the right info is given to the helpers in the first place, no?

Re: Y-Pipe?

The idiot OP does.

He's also the same person who doesn't understand why you shouldn't put a Spintech on a 2.2.
