xtreme resonator

I just bought a Spintech prostreet 3" center in/3" center out single, and installed it on my xtreme. It does not soud too loud, and I asked him y? And he said to take the resonator off my xtreme. Where is the resonator on my truck? Anyone know what he is talking about?

Re: xtreme resonator

Don't bother, taking the precat off will have little to no effect on loudness...I've tried it before, waste of my time.

Re: xtreme resonator

I've found eliminating the pre-cat gave me a lil boost, or it could have been the fact I got a larger y-pipe fabbed along with a high-flow cat and exhaust...

Or maybe im just crazy! wooobeelllyy woobbeelll gee gee!!!!

Re: xtreme resonator

Would it make it a difference? On power/louder? If I took the pre cat off?

Re: xtreme resonator

My 4.3 sonoma only has a hollowed out cat, and no muffer ran into dual exhuast tips. No muffler.

It runs a bit better, but not a ton. Sounds good tho

I'm convinced personally that it does, might as well eliminate some useless shit anyway right?

Did you not read my post above?

People can think all day long that removing the precat does something, in reality we are talking about maybe .5-1hp which even if it was at the rear wheels you'd never EVER notice. Doesn't do much of anything for loudness either as I noted, the only thing it does do is create a headache when you need to bring it somewhere to have whatever pipe you put in its place welded so it won't leak anymore...

Agree that it's mostly useless yes, however it is there because it is smaller and will heat up quicker before the main cat will, after the main cat is heated up though the precat is absolutely useless.

On it's own nah, if you were to have a custom y-pipe made or buy one from somewhere then it would be gone by default which is fine. It is in a tough spot to just remove on its own and is not worth the trouble.

Re: xtreme resonator

Can someone post a picture of this precat/resonator thing? I swear I have never seen it on my 99 Xtreme 4.3.

EDIT: whoops. meant to post this in another thread. Sorry for the gravedigging.

Re: xtreme resonator

I removed my Pre cat and stock cat and installed an aftermarket performance cat- I noticed a pretty big gain and exhaust did get louder. S10s do not have resonators- you will find those on a lot of 4 cylinder cars like hondas, etc.
