Talking spintech here i come.

well guys... i finally done it. I have been searching the site and listening to the exhaust sticky's and realized i want a spintech muffler. I just ordered my 3 inch center/2.5 inch dual sportsman street.

Right now i have a flowmaster supper 44 3 inch/2.5 dual on my 99 s10 and after hearing spintech, i am a fan of them. I will have a sound clip up of it when i get it put on in about a week or so. I cant freakin wait!!! lol.

do you have the same one im getting?.. and if so.. did you change your y-pipe or anything? I was thinking of having my y-pipe custom to 2.50. Would it make a big difference?

Thanks a bunch man. It sounds even better now that everything is all broken in. Ill take another vid later in the spring. And spintechs are starting to take over the muffler world and become reallly popular...flowmaster is just a dying brand

Re: spintech here i come.

Sounds good. But not only because they sound good. They have proven to flow 2x's better than flowmaster and they are built like tanks. Make sure if you can to spray on some VHT like i did. It'll help prevent rust and make things look good while lasting longer

Re: spintech here i come.

Does anyone know about how much a exhaust shop would charge to do a custom y-pipe to 2.50?... and would it make any difference in overall sound? I was thinking of doing this when i go to get my spintech put on. Thanks guys

Re: spintech here i come.

Uhm its gonna be hard to find a shop to make you a custom y-pipe to be honest. Or at least around here it is. And it won't really affect sound that much.

Re: spintech here i come.

i ve had a spin for 8 years and i love it . it took a couple of road trips to break it in but after that it started to baffle when i geared down.

yeah thats kinda what i thought....like right now... i have the stock y-pipe.. and i got a high flow cat on it.. then a super 44 single 3 inch in.. 2 1/2 dual out running out the back with a 2 1/4 tailpipe. When i get the spinech i want to go to 2 1/2 inch tailpipe and run them out the back. Is there really a difference in sound between a 2 1/4 tailpipe and 2 1/2 tailpipe?

Re: spintech here i come.

Theres not alot or room there for a bigger y pipe.. its a tight fit with the stock ones if u look at em close..

They smack them off of potholes and speed bumps, like I did.

As far as 2.5" vs. 2.25", I didn't notice any difference in overall volume level of my Sportsman w/ 3" in, dual 2.25" out piping vs. some setups I've heard with dual 2.5". Obviously, it was slightly easier to bend and route, too.

haha yeah i dont want that. i hate potholes enough as it is. Well whenever my spintech arrives.. i guess i might just keep the 2.25 tailpipe on if it dont make much overall sound difference in 2.5. THanks for your help man.

let me ask you for your 2 cents again.. which would be 4 cent i guess haha. Is it worth it to put headers on my 99 s10? As in much sound difference and is it hard to switch out headers for a 99 s10? Thanks.

Re: spintech here i come.

A nice set of Edelbrock TES headers and Y pipe adapted to fit your '99 (you'd need to switch from the stock pre-cat/cat setup to a single aftermarket converter) would improve the sound a little bit.
When I first bought my old '97, I just had a Flow 40 catback setup for a few years, sounded ok. But when I swapped out the stock manifolds, Y pipe and converter for the Edel headers/Y and a Magnaflow cat, it sounded a lot deeper, a fair bit louder, and had a noticable gain in top-end passing power. Obviously, changed the setup since then, but the headers and 3" cat are the same.

I've installed/help install a few set of these on friends and family's trucks, so we've got it down to about a 90 minute process to install the Edel setup, but a first time go-round will probably run you the better part of a saturday morning into afternoon.

The one problem is...that's where the potholes came in. I had a 3.5"/4.5" drop (Zq8 plus 2/3 spindles/blocks), and the Edelbrock Y pipe hangs a fair bit lower than even the stock Y pipe, so I whacked the center pipe more than several times.

okay.. when you say stock cat... i now have a high flow magna flow cat on mine.. would that work?... and where can you get edel. headers for my truck?... sorry for all the questions man.. im not to smart with this stuff haha.

Yea, lol the person who had my truck before me hit a speed bump hard or sumthing cause it looks like they took a sledge hammer to the center of it

Re: spintech here i come.

You dont need headers. The stock headers flow fine up to about 300hp and thats a lotta money to be shellin out for a possible slight sound change.

Re: spintech here i come.

alright so i got the spintech muffler welded up... i dont have any tailpipes on it right now cause me and my dad just welded in the muffler... any ideas on what i should do with it... would it be better to run it out before the backtire or just run them straight out the back?

Re: spintech here i come.

if you run them before the back tire then it will be louder, if you run them out the back they will have a more toned sound, but im pretty sure they will still be pretty loud

Re: spintech here i come.

I'd go out the back...When me and my bro-in-law had the muffler, his ran in front of the tire, mine ran out the back, and his tended to be a fair bit more "droney" at highway speeds. Not a gigantic difference, but a noticable one.

Re: spintech here i come.

That's what I did with my Sportsman..If you can find the video in the sound clip sticky of Mintsick's dual-out Sportsman, I had my exhaust guy pattern it after his setup. Both pipes come up over the passenger's side of the rearend, and then break left and over with the driver's side pipe inside of the leafs. My explanation isn;t great..but you'll prbably get the drift.

Only prob is that my setup wouldn't work if tyou still have a spare..it's still doable, just takes a few more bends around the driver's side of the tire. My guy went on pretty much of a 45 degree bend after the rear end to the driver's side bed corner underside.

so basically if i got this correct... you have one pipe breaking to the left and the other to the right out the back? sorry if i misunderstand you man.

Correct...from behind the only thing you could see was about 3/8" of tip sticking out at the corners at a 45 degree angle.

So hows it sound Scott? And 02 Black xBlazer post up some pics of how you ran it. I have mine coming out behind both tires at an angle. So I know what your saying about running it to both sides but it would be easier to explain.

I would love to, but I don't have any!

I've got a clip of the setup in the sticky, but when I first had it put on, i ran the pipes straight out the back with a pair of black Z28 tips. the tips started to make this strange annoying rattle between 2-3k rpm. I had the last 2 feet or so of pipe re-done in the way desribed previously, but never gotaround to snapping pics. Unfortunately, the truck gave up the ghiost about 3 months afte I got it done.

well i cant really give you a honest opinion right now because its just running off straight muffler without any tailpipes lol... so its just loud and all. But im trying to decide on what i want to do with the tailpipes right now.

Re: spintech here i come.

ok so let me ask something else... everyone knows how it sounds with just running a muffler...lol.. its loud and its loud inside the cab basically cause my muffler is right behind the back seat of the passenger side... But i do actually like how it sounds.. i know alot of people dont but this is my opinion.. my question is.. what is the best way to KINDA keep that sound but not so loud inside the cab?? would it be good to run tailpipes and do turndowns before the backtires or what? If anyone has experience with spintech and turndowns please help me out..

Re: spintech here i come.

Put a tail pipe on it but end it before the axle. Turn down or out the side in front of the tire. Turn down will my louder Im guessing.
