slp y-pipe on a 5 speed pics inside.

this is some of what i had to do to get a slp y-pipe to fit on my 98 s10 with a 5 speed.

first you need to smash the top of the pipe where if goes under the trans down about 3/8" pipe is 2 1/4 diameter so it needs to be about 1 7/8 thick where it goes under the trans.

next you need to grind down the fins on the transmission. center 1 all teh way to the case. the ones to the left and right of it need to go down about 2/3 the way to the case.

this is just a way that i came up with to hold the mounting flange in place. its not easy to hold it up and get the bolts started when you are working by yourself.

this is it all installed. make sure once you have the truck on the ground that nothing hits the bottom of the trans. i found that having the truck on jack stands. that the frame flexes over the stands and makes it look like you have plenty of clearance but soon as i set it on the ground i could see it was touching a little. just means a little more grinding.
the sound of this y-pipe with jba headers is bada$$. and the power is way better than the stock y-ipe imo.
hope that helps some of you that are thinking of doing this.

if you grind the fins all the way down, will it fit w/o pounding the pipe?

not really, you would have to grind way into the bell housing to get it to clear without smashing it some.

i would say it hangs down about the same as the stock 1.
not really sure though my stock 1 was smashed, cut and generally screwed.
i hit a bent up hood off another car on the freeway about a year ago. ripped a big a$$ hole in the stock y-pipe. really sucked.lol

Has anybody thought about getting some oval tubing and welding it in where the pipe goes under the trans?? I would think that as long as you made the area the same, the flow would stay the same as well.

Well.. Possibly. But then you have to make custom fittings From Oval to circle. Unless they sell it, or you have a small pressbrake, tig welder and a slip joint roller. then it can get hard

ADDED: well I am retared not to look at the bottom of the page.
I guess it will be the cost cause you will need 2 angles ( 80 Each ) and 2 feet of pipe ( 25 Per foot ) your looking at 200$ for that setup.. anways the height of that pipe is near 3"
