Single Vs SIDO
Alright ive done all the searching on how they are going to look etc, but im running a FlowMaster 40 single in single out the back with 2.50" Pipeing, im just wondering if it would only really be for looks or if it would sound a little louder along with a tad more flow out with 2.50" single in dual out? possibly 2.50" out also?

Performance-wise, no difference. The single inlet is still the bottleneck in your system ... that is, of course, if you were actually pushing enough gases through there for it to even be a restriction. Realistically, a single in/single out of whatever size is more than adequate for 95% of all stock engines. The only difference you'll get between a single in/out and a SIDO muffler might be in the sound, as you'll have two audible outlet points VS one - may or may not be LOUDER, but it should have a different TONE, at least.
Go with a SIDO for the sake of a different tone and/or for the sake of appearance (fake dual outlets), but as far as performance ... no. An exhaust system can only flow as much as the smallest point in its tubing. It doesn't matter if you have 3" flanges coming off the headers and dual 4" outlets, if you still have all the exhaust getting crammed through a Y-pipe, that's always going to be the bottleneck in the system. |
