muffler poll

Spintech Prostreet or Sportsman
Flowmaster super 40 or Super 44
Magnaflow

reply with which one you would pick and which one you think would sound best on a 4.3l with duals running out the back

Re: muffler poll

Sound is very subjective. What sounds good to some will sound terrible to others.

A modified motor will sound very different than a stock motor with these mufflers.

Best bet is to find actual trucks with these mufflers and hear them for yourself. Check at idle, W.O.T. and at cruise.

I'd wished you had listed other, but then that'd be it
for narrowing down. I suppose for me it would a
choice between the Spin and a Maggie. I have ran
a Spin and have a new Maggie in a box for sale,
but my choice is what I have now, Afterburner
in 3".

Re: muffler poll

this is one of the impossible questions to answer. Everyone has their likes and dislikes. I agree with PHILNTX just have to find someone or a sound clip with those mufflers. Even the pipe size will makes a difference along with if there is a converter or not. I'm still trying to figure out what I would like to put on mine.

x2, i got a rustmast 40 put on last February never was happy with it. took me almost a year to find the right setup. stock cat, remove the muffler all together and just weld in some pipe where the muffler was. overall it has a nice deep rumble to it at idle and through the gears to 2,500 rpm, it sounds really nice.

Re: muffler poll

i either wanna go with duals out the back or a set up like lifted97s-10 but the prostreet doesnt have dual exits or at least not one that i can find, thats why i was thinkin flowmaster dual exits with good sound, but everyone says they rust out but if i got a flow i would put a coating on it like lifted97s-10 did, i really like his setup and the write up and vid he did one his, thanks lifted97s-10 for the good info and input on my threads, i am still not decided yet, i wanna do it right so im taking my time deciding

Re: muffler poll

I have a super 40 custom 3" catback dual 2.5" out with magnaflows direct fit ypipe and cat which are bigger then stock.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h5kqPVZnkk
Its smoother toned then my cousins spintech (lifted97s-10) I've loved it for the last 4 yrs but after doing my cousins exhaust I feel its time for a change and Ill be swapping out to prostreets. Since they dont have the dual out option you can either do a Y after to muffler to split it into 2 tailpipes, Do what Im going to do and y it into 2 pipes before the muffler and run 2 mufflers, Im doing this because Im going to run a true dual setup once I do my v8 swap so ill just be reusing the mufflers. That is a more expensive route tho since you have to buy 2 mufflers and our v6's dont really need dual mufflers or dual exhaust. Ive also heard that you can special order different configurations from Spintech. Call them up and ask.

Re: muffler poll

Ill be running a prostreet duals out the back behind each tire on my day off Feb 17th. The thing is u rarely hear dual pipes with a prostreet since they dont make a dual out option so u have to get creative.

Re: muffler poll

I am going to help my cuz tiresmokinV8^ with his setup on Feb 17th and i think the dual spintechs are going to have the same overall sound but his piping is gonna be different so it is going to be interesting on how it sounds at idle and higher rpm's...i think while crusing ours will sound the same. And no problem man were just all here to help you!

Just get a Sportsman Street dual out, sounded exactly the same as a Pro Street on my truck and I have had both muffler setups. There was zero difference in sound honestly between a single pro street and a dual out sportsman street on the same truck for me.

Re: muffler poll

I know its not on the list but how about flowtech's??? The afterburners are nice and the terminators I was gonna run on my summer car but they would have rubbed on the drive shaft so I got the afterburners. They are definately cheaper then those listed and to me they sound good but then again I have it on a v-8 with 400+ ponies.

Re: muffler poll

so i called the local exhaust shop today to see if they would do it and i could get a quote, the old man was being a jerk and said, "no! i only weld up things that i sell! not spintechs or whatever its called!" and my truck has been there 3 or 4 times for rotation, alighment, new tranny lines, this is rediculous. so ill have to drive to the next closest one 15 miles away

WTF? Why would he care as long as he is getting his money? I've had the same problem with shop guys being hard heads so i guess it all depends where you go. The exhaust shop in my area that me and tiresmokinV8 go to whenever we need to is called Zehners. Its like 30 mins away but totally worth it as the guys who work there are all respectable men, not some 19yr old who thinks he knows all. But yea just make sure your happy with their service and experience. You don't want em goin half-ass on your exhaust.

i either wanna run duals out the back or run a single out the side like yours (i dont mean to copy or anything but i like your setup) and i was kinda thinkin 2.5 inch piping is that possible to run off a stock cat?

Im pretty sure the piping after the cat is 2.5" stock so you would be fine. The piping after the muffler is when it changes to 2.25"

i've pretty much narrowed it down to sportsman 3in in dual 2.5 inch out and a 2.5 inch in/out prostreet. any suggestions? the guy at another exhaust shop i called said there might not be room to run a Y pipe after the muffler on the pro street. and people say the sportsman sounds the same but with just 2 exits.

Sure..some will use the proper euipment to "massage" the 2.5" end open a little to better mate to the 3", and some will jut shove the 3" piping an inch or two over the lip of the end of the 2.5" cat , and simply fill in the gap with filler metal.

Yea you can do it. But like what we did to mine is weld new flanges to 3" pipe that would mate up perfectly with the hi-flow cat.

Re: muffler poll

I finally picked out the one i want. I'm ordered a spintech sportsman over the prostreet due to the dual exits. the guy i called at the exhaust shop said they might not be able to run a Y off the prostreet. and other people said that the sportsman is the same as the prostreet but with 2 exits. so i got a 3 inch in dual 2.5 inch out and im going to run duals straight out the back. Yes, im gonna be a spintech guy. I'm all ready hyped up on what it will sound like from the sound clips i've heard. Can't wait to get my new setup. should get here tomorrow or wednesday. i wanna get it piped on saturday but the problem is i have a school dance that night and im afraid my date wont like everybody lookin at us when we roll up in the dime. so im not sure yet. but i wanna get it on as soon as possible.

well i havent really made my mind up on it... i got the 3 inch center inlet/2.5 dual outlet... right now my truck has a super 44 same inlet and outles and i have them running straight out the back with 3 inch custom tips my dad made. Basically look like the covette tips. I was thinking of either keeping it like that or switching it up and exiting out the side before the back tires. But again im not sure yet what im going to do. what about u?

Good choice. Post up sound clips!! Ill be swapping my twin prostreets on the 17th Already picked up the mufflers straights and a y to tie it all into my old system. Id vote get it installed before the dance. Little more attention never hurt anyone right? Girls like attention especially when dressed up for dances. HAha
