Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

im gonna order one from autozone because the honeycomb broke loose in the one thats on my truck. this is a direct fit. i wanted to know if these are good converters or should i get a different one. this one is about 180 bucks and most of the others are like 220+. trying to save a little bit of money. my truck is a 99(2.2) so i need it. the converter comes with a 5yr warranty from autozone. let me know what you guys think. thanks

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

well my original bolts were too rusted to break loose so i took it to a local shop and they had to drill the old ones out. it was like 70ish i think.

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

It's funny that you posted this, because I'm in search of the same exact topic. I have a 1998 4.3 4X4 VIN X, and ordered the 23497 Magnaflow from Autozone a couple days ago. Well, it came in today, got it home, and found that the flanges were clocked wrong. So, my question is, are the triangular flanges supposed to match up end to end, or are they supposed to be offset? My truck's flanges are offset. If you ebay the Magnaflow converter, a pic will come up, and it shows the flanges matched up. Be wary of this before ordering, and please let me know what you or anybody else can find. Thanks!

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

maybe you got the wrong one by accident
usually the flanges are both in the same direction

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

According to your last post, it seems that the cat was manufactured properly, then. I can't figure out why the flanges of my exhaust are offset. It appears relatively simple...all exhaust components are stock on my truck. I don't know where to go from here. Did you verify that the flanges are, in fact, aligned on yours?

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

Thanks for your input. I guess being's you have the 2.2, things are a little different. I still can't figure out why the 4.3 magnaflow part has aligned flanges. ??? I was able to find a converter by Walker Exhaust P/N: 15856 at Advance. Price: $218...ouch. For some reason, their site doesn't show a pic, but Walker's site does, and it shows offset flanges, which solves my problem. Best of all, it'll be next day, baby! Thanks for your help, and I hope my trouble helps someone else down the road.

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

I just had a converter meltdown over the weekend. I wound up cutting it out and welding a piece of pipe into place of it. There was no flange under there, on either side of the cat anyway. I am trying to find a descent replacement/high flow cat to put back in so that my truck will pass inspection. Found these: http://www.racepages.com/products/?N...294967255+2268
and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this company. I am thinking the 3rd one down.
