Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
Ok well I just installed the headers and y pipe on my 2000 x cab 4.3 the only thing I had to do to make them work, was massage the floorboard with a hammer to get the drivers side 02 sensor to fit. I am a little worried about the ground clearance tho, the Y-pipe hangs a little low but everything else went very smoothly, onto the pics...
![]() ![]() ![]() If you cut the stock y pipe right after the pre cat but before the crossmember all you have to do is buy a 2 1/2 inch header flange and weld it to the stock pipe and it will bolt right up ( I will be doing that tonight ) here's a before picture ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
What was the part # of the headers? I didn't think the Y-pipe would fit that well, it looks great. Nice looking truck too!

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
That is a mean looking truck dude. Mad props on that, and the exhaust looks awesome. I think with selective driving you will be good and not bottom it out. Did you feel any power/sound difference with them?

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
I will let you know the difference tonight after I'm finished. I really don't expect much but we will see. I also installed the edelbrock valve covers as well. They fit but you do have to use the 1st gen 4.3 bolts and gaskets, and I had to notch a big chunk out of the a/c bracket so be careful if you do this.

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
just got done welding it up and it sounds good, not too loud at all just mellow, as for the power increase yes there is a noticable increase... I don't know if its from the headers as much as the y pipe, that stock y pipe just wasnt cutting it

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
I have a few of questions. First, when you say "massage" how much extra clearance did it take? Second, did you fab the Y-pipe or did you buy it? Third, is that stock ZQ8 suspension? And yes that is a smooth truck you have there!!!

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
I would say if your stock Y-pipe doesnt touch the ground you might be able to go a little bit bigger but not to much.

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
thanks for the responses, I started off with a stock ls I added ZQ8 spindles 2 inch ( i think drop coils ) rear ZQ8 leafs 3 inch drop blocks, I removed the bump stops and it has toxic drop shocks in the rear and nitro shocks in the front it also had a ZQ8 steering box. The Y- pipe comes with the headers at summit the total cost is $369.00 it comes with the headers y pipe and all the hardware you need to install it. The y pipe hasnt bottomed out yet so I plan on driving it carefully, and I should be good!!! Very easy install give it a try

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
Thats not a bad price for that. I dont know what a shop would charge to fab one like that up. Summit had another kit for 98 and up, but it was like $439. There is another thread on here somewhere that says the Y-pipes dont work with manual trans.. wouldnt know why. I would think you could just "massage" it a little bit to make it work! lol

Looks great! People have always wondered if those tes headers+y pipe for the 94-97 would work on our newer trucks. glad to see that they will.

out thru the wheel wells I'm not sure if you could pull them out from underneath because of the limited space

Re: Just installed the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers
Yeah the only way we got them out of the Jimmy at school throught the bottom was to push on the tranny. So the passenger side comes out real easy and the steering shaft has to be removed on the driver side?
