Exclamation I think my Cat is bad and I'm flat broke...

I'm pretty sure I have a plugged cat on my 93 Blaze (4.3) and I am flat ass broke right now. (divorces are expensive) Can i gut it for the time being? I would think it wouldn't be a problem on an OBD1 vehicle since there isn't a downstream 02 sensor. Any thoughts. I don't care about decreased torque and i know there is no significant performance gains here. My truck runs like ass and I can't afford a cat right now sow that's the angle I'm working. Thanks guys

You shouldn't have any problem at all, especially since you're OBDI.

Re: I think my Cat is bad and I'm flat broke...

yeah in fact if it's easier for you just bolt a piece of pipe up there for the time being-your 02 sensor won't even know and i sure as hell won't tell it

just so long you do not have emmission checks. go ahead. our truck does not even know it is there

easiest way to tell if your cat is clogged is with a vac gauges. it you have low vac than you either have vac leak or restricted exhaust.

Re: I think my Cat is bad and I'm flat broke...

It's gonna make it loud and annoying. I thought the cat on my 91 4x4 was clogged because it was so slow and had no power. I wound up busting it out and vaccumming all the pieces out. I had a Dynomax exhaust on it. HOLY HELL did it make it loud! It was to the point of being annoying to drive. The empty cat shell just made it a big empty resonator and made it really loud. It still ran fine, was just annoying to drive after that. I never did replace it and wound up trading it in on a 98 S10.

and sound a little different.

Mine recently broke up inside, so I hollowed it out, hung it back up and ran it until my high flow spun cat came in. I have to pass inspection and emissions, so it was 100% necessary to hang. Yes, a hollow cat would pass the visual inspection, but would never get past the sniffer.

I was suprised at how well that tiny little high flow cat did on the e-test, truck ran so clean I couldnt believe it.....neither did the guy doing the test.

it changes the tone over both the stock cat, and no cat. It is somewhat louder than the stock cat, but not overpowering.

Ill try to get a decent audio clip.

so far I have not had luck with that.

ok cool, because i still want to keep it relatively quiet, due to the amount of ricers here, cops can be total about so many things, so flying under the radar is a must
