Help!! Need an opinion on something.

I'm going to get me a new exhaust in the spring, but I'm going to buy the muffler and tip(s) before then. My question is, should I go with;

1) A single 2 1/2" exhaust from cat (Which just means a new muffler and tailpipe basically).
2) A single 3" exhaust from cat.
3) Dual 2 1/4" exhaust from muffler.

The only real engine modification that I'll be making is an air intake before someone asks me, and I want to get a muffler with a little more of a rumble. I'd also like to place the tip somewhere else if it's a single exhaust (I've already got some ideas) and I'll also be putting a roll pan on the truck before I get the exhaust done. Any help I get before I start buying exhaust parts will be greatly appreciated, because I need to go ahead and make a decision.

I do, and that's the option that I'm leaning towards the most.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

I'd go with 3'' and hide it behind th bumber. It will look much cleaner with roll pan and sound good. That's what I am doing to mine.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

I've been running a 3" from the cat out the back end
for a few years now and it's been fine. I use a Flowtech
afterburner muff with a turn down right under the bumper
so one can't see it unless you look. Black heat paint helps
too. You could do worse than this.

Cool. I appreciate it if you could get under the truck and take a couple of pics too. I'd like to see how you ran it.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

i wouldnt recommend 3" unless you have a serious amount of power..... you lose too much low end with a 3" exhaust system.... just my experience and .02

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

He is right is a way..My ride is so slow it wouldn't matter,
but to be honest with you the loss was minimal..Anyway
if you look towards the right bottom where the red
square is, you can see it some. I guess it's more obvious
than I thought. If I were to turn it out at 80/90* to the right
it would be a lil harder to see where it ends.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

If I do a single, I'll have it come out of the stock location, but do it to where just the exhaust tip can be seen. I'd have it come out at a downward angle.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

I just went out and measured my exhaust pipe with my calipers. The outer diameter is just over 2.25", an the inner diameter is just over 2". Right now I think that I'm going to go with the 2.5" single exhaust from the convertor back, with a stainless tip coming out from the factory location, at more of a downward angle than the factory pipe. I figure that since the only other mods to the engine will be an air intake and some computer mods with a power programmer, that should be fine.

Thoughts?

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

Well, unless I change my mind before I start buying stuff, that's what I'll go with. Either that or the dual exhaust set-up. The jury will be out until I actually buy the muffler and tip(s). I may actually go with the 2.5" set up, but instead of after the cat, I'll get a Magnaflow cat and start the new exhaust at the y-pipe.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

i dont have a decent enough camera to get a good sound clip. all i have is the camera on my phone and it makes it sound shitty.it has the nice rumble to it that flowmasters have its a bit louder then just the regular fourty series. and you can deffinently (sp) hear it in the cab but its not unbearible. its the best sounding exhaust i have ever had on this truck.

I have a clip in the sound sticky of my old '97 with a Super 44, single 3" in/out, like page 6 or something like that. Can't see the tip under the pan in the vid though, too dark.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

Here, easier than digging throught the sticky. You can see the clips of some of my single in/dual out clips with Flow Super 40s and a Spintech sportsman on the same streetfire account while you're there.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

I had a '98 Fullsize Chevy a few years back, and it had a 4.3 in it. I used a Flowtech Terminator muffler on it (3" in, dual 2 1/4 out) and it sounded awsome! I'm going with that muffler again for sure. I just don't know if I want duals yet.

Re: Help!! Need an opinion on something.

I know that it's been a long time since anyone posted on this thread, but I made my decision. A few months ago, I bought a Flowmaster 40 single in/dual out and some flat Z28 tips with the intentions of running duals out the back, under my rollpan. Well, I had to cut my tailpipe off because it was rubbing against my rollpan. After putting a turndown on the factory muffler and looking at the back of the truck, I got an idea. This is what I decided to do.

This is what got all of this started.

And this is what got me thinking.

So this is what I finally decided to do.

I love how it sounds, and if it does resonate in the cab, I've never been able to pay attention to it because of the stereo.
