flows or straight. big decision
okay i got a 4.3l vortec s10 blazer. my birthday was this week so i get my exhaust done. either way i choose its going to be true duals with 3-5inch tips. i like flowmaster, they have a pretty good sound, but i feel theyve been put on almost every truck at my school. kinda wanna be different. which is why i thought straight piped after the cat.( i have to have it for emissions). i know its kinda loud in the cab(had a gaping hole before the cat at one time). but i like the loudness of it over flowmasters kinda softer tone. just wanted opinions thanks guys

Re: flows or straight. big decision
Straightpipes aren't gonna sound good at all man. It sounds like a tractor blarring around IMO. Please don't do this. This is one of the worst things as far as sound you can do. Also, you said you had to pass emissions? Cutting the muffler off and running straight pipes wouldn't let you pass so cutting the cat off wouldn't make a difference either.
I wouldn't go Flowmasters either. I've been there done that. They tend to have a drone at higher rpms. I would go with either a Spintech, Magnaflow, or Hooker Maxflows. These mufflers sound the best and tend to not drone at all. I have true duals and love it. I wouldn't recommend true duals unless you plan on modding your motor later or already have the power to back it up. Otherwise a nice 2.25 y pipe with a 2.5 single in dual out catback setup would best suit you. |

Re: flows or straight. big decision
Yeah and no mufflers sound horrible man. Have you ever heard a 4.3 without a muffler? I don't know of anything that sounds good without a muffler.
Flowmasters aren't bad sounding it's just there are better mufflers out there that do sound better. True duals aren't really necessary but it is your truck. A nice catback would please you and you will not notice a sound difference unless you get headers or take the cat off. Actually true duals sound more mellow at idle versus the catback setup. I have a clip in the sound clip sticky with the true dual Flowmaster super 44's. The exhaust setup is in my sig. I couldn't get back far enough but you can hear the tone. The Spintech's are louder and have a better tone. Check it out in the exhaust sticky. |

Re: flows or straight. big decision
Lol well informa your el padre that a spintech prostreet sounds way better, built way better, and is the same price as the rustmasters. Don't do true duals it'll sound like 2 three cylinder engines lol and when they say to do true duals you need the power to back it up a CAI, TB mod, and maybe getting it bored down the road doesn't really cut it lol. I would go with a 2.5" y-pipe, magnaflow hi-flow cat, single 2.5" inlet to the muffler, and dual 2.5" outlet from the muffler

Re: flows or straight. big decision
I know most cops don't care around here but some do. It is required to have a muffler though. Get caught without one by the wrong cop and it's a ticket! No doubt about the straights though. |

Don't bother with true duals.
