Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
Hey guys the local exhaust shops around here sell the super 40 muffler and I know most people use them. I was at Autozone today and talked to my buddy Pete who know works there and he was telling me about the Super 44 muffler. I guess its supposed to sound better and more benificial than the super 40 muffler. They had to call Flowmaster to check on it and the guy from flowmaster said I should go with a 2 1/2 IN and a dual 2 1/4 OUT so I wont loose TQ. I wanted to go with 2 1/2 IN and OUT. Now my question it do you guys know if this muffler is better than the super 40 and will I loose tq if I do the 2 1/2 dual out like the guy from Flowmaster said? From what I know from working on my car and other exhaust knowledge I wouldnt loose any power or tq. You guys let me knwo your thougths on this. I also have a Magnaflow hight flow uni. cat that will be here tomorrow from Summit.
I have a part number for the super 44 that the Flowmaster guy told us about. #9425452 |

Hmmm thats kind of surprising. So is the super 40 or the 40 Delta series better?

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
the super 40 is overall a bigger muffler. its 5 inches thick compared to the usual 4 inches.
i like to look at it this way, you can only pass so much air through your smallest hole. whatever you put on you'll like it. |

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
i bought this muffler for my 98 4.3L and ended up selling it to another kid because it was really quiet. with the stock pipe back on u could hardly hear a difference, only under real hard acceleration.

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
Wel I ended up buying a Super 40 Flowmaster muffler from Advanced Auto for 90 bucks. Its a 3" in and dual 21/2" out so the shopw will have to put a reducer on the 3in side so I cna have 2 1/2in from the cat back. I also have a Magnaflow cat sitting in my floor which is a uni. 2 1/2 in and out.

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
The 40 and the 44 sound almost exactly the same on any motor you compare them on. I speak from experience, not "I heard a guy who knew a guy". If one's gonna "rice out" at the top end on your 2.2, the other model will do essentially the same thing. Bigger case, more chambers, one outlet or two, a flowmaster is a flowmaster is a flowmaster. the overall tone will change very little. The "super" series mufflers do have a lot less of that clangy-ness at higher rpm than the original 40 and 50 series, but there's no mistaking both are still clearly a product from the exact same company.
I don't mean to dismiss your purchase, I'm sure you'll be quite satisfied, I just wanted to stress to people that the tech guys at flowmaster will tell you whatever you want to hear. When I called a while back asking about the whole "whether or not Flowmasters 'break in' " (which they do not), and the guy spent 15 minutes trying to talk up the 44s over the Super 40, so even at the tech support level, it's all in the eye (or ears, really) of the beholder. |

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
97NAS "I do not have a 2.2" if you read my sig you'd see that, lol. However Im sure Ill be happy with the overall tone on my truck. I didnt liek the sound of a flowmaster on my Firebird though, but on trucks they sound better so I think.

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
Anyhow, I can assure you the Soop 40s don't "rice" at the top end. (my old setup before the new 44 setup) http://videos.streetfire.net/video/9...pers_57295.htm |

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
97 the truck sounded great in that clip. I also like your exhaust tips on your truck there. You dont see many trucks with dual-dual tips. I wanst gonna do tips and was just gonna do turn downs. Im not sure what that will do to the sound of it but I was hiding the fact I had a system so you can just hear it but not see it. However, after I get my roll pan put on I may go ahead and put some tips on it. What do you think?

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
I liked the looks of those tips when I first put 'em on, but they rusted very quickly (chromed, not stainless), so they only lasted about 6 months. I like the way a nice set of tips looks behind a rollpan, however, i'm currently running a "hidden" tailpipe myself, so I'm a little schizophrenic when it comes to exhaust tip decisions.

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
I hear ya. Well I got the exahust put on today and I love the way it sounds right now. We did what I said I was gonna do and I also took off that xtra little cat or resonator and replaced it with a piece of 2/12 in piping. I also just dumped the dual outlets with rurn down about 5inches frome the acutal muffler. Im gonna wait until I put on my roll pan to bring it all the way back. Also from the way it looks Ill have to take out my spare tire to run the drivers side outlet through. Is that so?

Re: Flowmaster Super 44 muffler
That actualy didnt sound all that bad after he got it installed. I like the way his sounded with the 44, but I have the super 40 and it damn near sounds the same as that. Ill try to get a clip up by the end of the weekend so people cna hear it.
