Personal opinion would ultimately be the best choice for you here if you were to check out the sound clip sticky, however for shits and giggles I will put in a vote for magnaflow.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

I had a Flowmaster on my 92 for near 10 years. I loved the deep sound and rumble it produced. the pipes always rusted out before the muffler and the only reason I replaced the muffler was because the pipes had been welded on. I'm getting ready to pop a FM on my 96.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

magnaflow due to having lifetime warranty and I have a flow on my 94 with turndowns right behind the rear tires. I am now searching for a magnaflow to swap it with. According to graphs i have seen, magnaflows outflow flowmasters.

Most f-body guys love the magnaflows due to they sounds lots lots lots better, changing my WS6 flow kit to magnaflow after the new house purchase.

If you guys want good prices on Magnaflows, Performance
Peddler sold me mine at a decent price. I still have
it. Brand new in the box. Anyway I doubt you'll find
much cheaper prices. >

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

Im gonna go with magnaflow.

There is a muffler shop around here that has magnaflow should I just let them pick the muffler size and pipeing or should I figure out what sizes I need. If so I dunno anything about that.

They will do ss for $402 installed. not bad at all!

Man, that sounds like an awful lot of money for some
pipe bent and a muffler welded on...

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

That's like $200 too much.

And catbacks are overpriced to begin with.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

When it says SS, is that stainless steel, or the S-10 SS? if it's stainless then $400 may not be that bad. I found a place around me that will do aluminized for $200 including the Flowmaster and they'll use the proper welding rod.

If it is stainless, exactly how are they going about attaching it? Will they use factory style brackets or will they use those crappy $.99 rubber hangers that rust out 3 days later so that you'll never be able to get it off?

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

Even stainless performance kits from somewhere like Summit Racing is nearly that price, so if you are getting mandrel bent 2.5" pipe and a high performace muffler the I'd say go for it. Like I mentioned though some shops make the system look really nice then they screw the details like hangers and clamps and instead of using OE brackets welded with proper stuff for rust resistance they cheap out

Shop did the piping. Not mandral, but the bends don't constrict the flow to much. Personally id never buy s.s. cuz ya can't see under my truck. No point for me to have shiny things under my truck. sound quality from the standard aluminized piping is great imo. Still think 400 bucks is way to much

I was gonna get ss over aluminized because of rust. How well does the aluminized last?

I've always had aluminized custom exhausts and never had an issue with rusting through, my first truck still had the aluminized exhaust on it when it went to the junkyard a good 5-6 years after I had the exhaust put on it.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

Aluminized lasts a long time. My fist S-10 exhaust was aluminized with a flowmaster but the damn exhaust broke right where they welded it, WITH A STANDARD WELDING STEEL! It still took over 4 years to do that though. The muffler was still good even after that, so I slid a fitting over the parts and clamped that there for another year.

That is for one pipe and muffler. If I do it my self i might do dual. how much will that change the sound?

I seen some of the work that shop does today and they use exhaust clamps to put it togheather anf s*** hangers.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

i would say 400 is way to much money to do what you are getting. i paid 500 for mine but i got a new smaller cat had it shifted toward the front. then a dual muff, custom bent both pipes over the frame. had two holes cut out off my bed and paid for 2 tips. id say your spending about 200 to much.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

I would order from Summit then as the nice stainless systems they sell have hangers at factory locations and you'll get stainless clamps with the kits. You'll need to do your own labor but at least you'll get a nice system that isn't hacked.

BTW, when you said regular hangers and clamps, was that on a nice system, or a stock replacement on a crap car.

That was on the nice one haha
Ide like to do it myself but I dont want to do the bends and stuff I got a welder tho.

I tryed looking at summit and other places no one list a exhaust for my truck for some resone they are all extended cab I thought about getting a etended cab one and cutting it to size tho.

I dont see why that woulnt work.

Re: flowmaster or magnaflow

What year and what truck? I've been looking for a non SS system for my extended cab and nobody makes them. I could get a super turbo system but I want something a little better. You won't be bending anything if you get the kit. Everything has already been bent for you. Just jack up the truck, pull the old crap off and bolt the new stuff in place.
