Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single exhaust + no cat soundclip

RIGHT CLICK AND SAVE AS, geocities blows

http://www.geocities.com/prettymuch92/exhaust.mp3

Let me know what you think, this was taken from my front porch while I started it about 20 feet away, then drove up my driveway and down the street a ways.

sounds pretty similar to mine
one question tho
is your cat gutted but still there or did you completely remove it and put a straight pipe in its place
just curious because I still have mine on but gutted and I was thinkin about removing it completely and getting a straight pipe but I dont want the tone to change from what I have now

Nice, thanks man. My s10forum gallery said it doesn't know how to handle .wma or .mp3 files, so I just did the geocities thing real quick. And for the guy that asked if it was I4 or V6, is that a real question?!?!? Thanks for the compliments guys.

Re: Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single exhaust + no cat soundclip

In somewhat off the topic, I'm trying to conclude a good cat-back system for my 2.2. I'm banking around the edge of a Gibson-cat back system, with a Borla intercooled tip. The only problem is, the tip claimingly "decreases backpressure" and I don't know if I want that.

Yea no problem. My server can handle tons of traffic, so I'll host it uhh.. until eternity or if there's no longer a need for it.

Re: Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single exhaust + no cat soundclip

I wouldn't worry about the tip at all, unless its like one of those pacesetter style tips that function as a muffler/resonator as well, tips are purely for looks if you ask me. That gibson setup should be perfect for your setup.

Re: Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single exhaust + no cat soundclip

Sounds pretty good! I have 4.3 L V6 (C1500 not an s10)
Im fairly new to exhaust so I don't know much technical stuff but im researching it....

Question... Do you have a H,X, or Y pipe or no? I defiently want to remove the cat.. I have no emissions here so I don't know what im going to do...

hmm I like it till the end when you start getting far away... sounds like an early WW2 Plane!

Thanks, I have stock manifolds and y pipe, I would assume the sound would be very similar or even a little better since the 1500's have a bigger and better y pipe to start. LOL ww2 plane, I like it.

Re: Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single exhaust + no cat soundclip

How much did you pay for the exhaust set up? Was there noticeable power gains with it?

I paid $160 in the beginning for your standard 2.5" single catback setup including the flowmaster 40 series muffler, exiting in stock location. I then cut the bend off the end of the tailpipe and added a piece to go out the back, then removed the cat and put 2.5" in its place, and bought an o2 simulator for $50. So all in all, I spent about $230 with everything to get my exhaust the way it is. I cant really comment on the gains since I have added many other performance mods around the same time, but I'm sure it helped out.

It does resonate pretty good in the cab at key rpm points, you can definitely hear it going down the highway at 80mph, but its not deafening. I have an extended cab and the muffler is set back almost as far as possible to the rearend.

I like it! Do you have headers or an upgraded Ypipe?

I will have to get a sound clip on here after I get mine exhaust on! Heres my new setup:
Original 40 3"in dual 2.5 out, Machperformance 3/4 length headers + ypipe, and no cat. Oh and I think the cam may add a little to the tone

Complaints from me? None, I love it. Complaints from the police? None as of yet, but I'm sure a few people don't appreciate it when I wrap it up to 3500-4000 rpm's in all the tunnels around here in Boston!

96s10, thanks, I have stock manifolds and stock y pipe, I probably won't be touching headers unless I do some serious work internally or add a turbo, apparently the stockers flow fine up to 300hp, and I'm really not pushing that number anytime soon. I would love to hear a soundclip of your truck, I have been wanting to hear one since you said you installed a cam!

Those 3/4 length headers look nice, how much do they cost?

Re: Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" single exhaust + no cat soundclip

Did u start it without the cat on before u put the pipe where the cat was (straight manifolds to y pipe), if so thats what mine sounds like right now. Alot of cars/ trucks just take their exhaust completly off around here so mine not that loud compared to some but running uncapped its freaking loud. When its capped up though it sounds a little deeper than your due to the fact that i have dumps, but nice sounding truck.

Yes I did start it with no cat, it sounded really ratty so I turned it off immediately. I have heard mine without the tailpipe and its a pure mindrattle, I am glad I have the tailpipe. Thanks for the compliments guys.
