exhaust turndown

Hello guys i want to do my own exhaust never done it before but i have the tools. I want a simple turndown after the cab. Im gonna keep the factory Y-pipe and cat. what muffler should i run. I dont want anything that is to loud or for it to make any poping sound. And also for there to be enough back pressure. Its a 2000 4.3 ext. cab. Thanks in advance.

Re: exhaust turndown

if you have a working cat. you will have enough backpressure to keep the mil from coming on.....

Re: exhaust turndown

hmm. Will the cat keep enough backpressure to prevent burning a valve or anything like that.

Your best best is to listen to sound clips of differrnt mufflers in the sound clip thread. Everyone tends to have different opinions on exhuast sounds/tone/loudness. what someone may think sounds so great will sound like shlt to others, and vice-versa.

ive listened to alot of them but they always have done a lil more extra than cat back. like high flow cat, removed the pre cat, larger y pipe ect. ect.
Well i guess ill just go with a flowmaster 40. if i dont like it i can always change it later.

Re: exhaust turndown

I out a Spintech Sportsman with a turn down just before the axle. I've been pleased with it.

The spintech sounds like a good muffler but i think its a lil too free flowing for me.
