Re: exhaust temps
500 degrees may be pushing it. I know that they can get pretty hot depending on which one you have. The only real way to get a true idea would be to drive your truck around with the muffler installed and then shoot it with one of those lazer thermometer. That way you'd know how it is on your specific vehicle as pipe diameter and all sorts of stuff could change the temp.

Re: exhaust temps
Yeah, I would think thats about as hot as it would get. The only thing that may make it hotter would be 2 hours of stop and go city driving since you would get less air flow under the truck. I would think that much highway driving would do the trick though.

Re: exhaust temps
FWIW, Harbor Freight sells those infra-red thermometers for pretty cheap. Might look into picking up one of those and checking your temps with that.
I've used the 500-degree type high-temp paints before on some exhaust parts and the only problems I had was with road debris chipping the paint or scratching them from wrenching around on stuff nearby. Make sure the parts are CLEAN (I used brake cleaner to get all the oil residue and such off) and well-prepped (they sell a high-temp primer paint) and it should hold up pretty well. |
