curiousity might kill the dime

i have a 95 with the 2.2l 4 cyl its my understanding that they need a lot of back pressure. now i bought the truck with a hollowed out cat and the truck runs rough and my buddy put his computer to it and it shows that the timing is flucuating at idle and it is rough. can this all be due to the cat convert or am i looking at getting a ECM. Any help is appreciated.

why not do a tune up and see if that fixes your problems?

Check your vacuum lines, and don't forget the brake booster runs off vacuum. If that leaks, it will make your shit run rough and almost stall out when you step on the brake.

Re: curiousity might kill the dime

Your motor needs no backpressure to run properly, back pressure is bad regardless of old school theory. Now running it open pipe, to big of pipe, or to short of an exhaust can all hurt your performance but that's a matter of exhaust resonance tuning. Check the basic stuff around where you were working, something might just be knocked loose.
