C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
I just started a whole new thread for this. Basically the setup is just a magnaflow cat leading to the a Spintech ProStreet Muffler and exiting out on the passenger side before the tire. Here are the pics and the link for the vid is at the bottom...enjoy!
(if you wanna see all the pics ill put up a link to my photobucket album at the bottom and don't post till im completely dont, ill let you know when i got all the pics up, thanks ) First we had to get the old piece of sh1t out. ![]() ![]() Spintech ProStreet ![]() ![]() ![]() Magnaflow Cat ![]() HAHA how it started out ![]() Next step: Weld flanges to the cat ![]() ![]() Next step: Creating an S-bend. Here's how the s-bend started and than what we did to it to make it work... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Got the s-bend mounted up ![]() ![]() |

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
Next we cut a piece of straight pipe to connect the s-bend and muffler
![]() ![]() Than we welded up all the hangars ![]() Than we inserted the 90*bend at a 45* angle and inserted some straight pipe into the 90* bend. ![]() The exhaust is all pieced together now ready to be taken apart and painted ![]() ![]() ![]() Now its time to throw on some VHT dark silver to make it look good and last longer ![]() Now its time to put it all back together and mount it up ![]() ![]() Here is where it ends...its just a piece of 3" pipe until i cut the pipe shorter and throw on a gibson tip. ![]() ![]() ![]() THIS IS THE END OF THE PICS!!! And here is the vids you have all been waiting for...i hope the quality is ok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glVQoODFbRo ENJOY AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!! ![]() here is the link to my album with all the pics if your interested http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r...dytub/Exhaust/ |

Good stuff man, looks nice. Id eventually get headers and an upgraded Y-pipe to really take advantage of all that. Good job.

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
Not bad, the welds dont look too great but so long as they hold up then who cares. I have a similar set up on my truck, but I didnt hang it up quite so high, so the pipe exits level instead of angled down.

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
Yea the welds we knew looked crappy cuz his friend did it for free(who is no expert) and doesn't have the greatest of welders. But he has welded before and we checked all the welds numerous times for holes and all that so it should hold up.

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
sounds good, but you should really have them pipes rewelded. i dont want you to hit a bump or go off roading and leave your new pipes behind.
with the truck running, put your hands near the junk welds and feel for leaks. dont touch the pipes, but you know what i mean. |

No argon gas makes for splattery welds.

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
They are strong welds and have no leaks...we checked em quite a few times already...haha just not pretty. And i dont off-road and not plannin on hittin any bumps big enough to break my exhaust apart...as tiresmokinV8 said with the smaller welder and no argon gas it leads to the splatter since the metal oxidizes so fast

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
honestly. the welds look fine. if you dont have a good welder oh well. i dont look at my exhaust.
![]() NOTE: that blows the tire out the side during a burn out... lol.![]() i have a small welder and my welds are still in one peace... the beads look like shit but they work... trust me the cherry bomb has been hit by a good bit if rocks and misc objects.... Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
they have no penetration for sure. The "weld" on the right is not complete The desing and the fitting of the exhaust line is great, but the weld need some work again ![]() they should look a least like this ![]() Last edited by LowSub : 12-30-2008 at 01:24 PM. |

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
Welds don't have to look pretty to make it hold. I agree on the fact that some welds do not look like there is good penetration but that is it. PRETTY does not equal strength in most cases. I welded parts of my exhaust on my back under a vehicle and some do not look great especially on the top, But pure penetration and no leaks.
I bet with the 3" exhaust you lost some low end power but gained it more topend (I saw you mention topend power but not lowend) Last edited by LXtasy : 01-06-2009 at 07:09 PM. |

Re: C-mas exhaust complete w/pics and vids!!!
I believe its a 96 maxima. My friend just bought it a few months ago. He wanted an actual decent dd so he can keep his other car in the garage. Its a 5sp white and pretty well loaded. I has I think around 140k on it. I drove it back on a trip last week and it runs great and is soo quiet. Its pretty quick too. It kills my cousins truck (Lifted97s-10) But I raced him over new years and kept up even with him until around 90 then I started pulling away pretty good which surprised me.

I always thought that was funny that once you own or are very interested in a particular type of car, you can spot one a mile away by the littlest detail. |

I know its a bit late, but as for the welds. . . . When you put the cat on you should have took a torch to it then when it was red hot you push the tube into it and voila! less welds

I don't think so, the outside diameters are really close to each other, but I may be wrong.

Not at all. All you hear is a very slight rumble if nothing is on in the truck. But if your just cruising and the music is on or your talking you can't hear it at all...unless my right foot got heavy hahaha. But if im sitting in it at idle and the passenger door is opened up its like HOLY SHIT...haha its awesome loud. I love it all the way around. Haven't got to the track with it yet...i can't wait!
