Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

My question is, what is the best exhaust for that low muscle car/truck sound? i have the 01 4.3L Vortec V6 and i want to run true duals straight out the back. I don't have emissions so i don't need a cat but my dad is making me get one if i buy an exhaust.

Any suggestions?

Puta v8 in. Otherwise you will not get anything close to a "muscle sound".

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

Hahah well my truck is lifted and has a meaner "lifted truck sound" hahah which i guess the sound matches the looks. Hahah but in no means is it a V8 sounding muscle car. I have a spintech prostreet with a hi-flow magnaflow cat and all 3" piping from the y-pipe back. First off...don't run true duals on your 4.3...if for some reason you do though don't make each pipe just straight pipes because it'll sound like ass

97 S-10 ext. cab/1998 C1500 5.7L 350, hedman headers, spintech prostreet muffler, CAI, corvette rad, ford 8.8 axle w/ 3.73 gears & posi, 4l60e heavy duty rebuild, transgo shift kit, vette servo, 3k stall, W4Me performance tune, Axle flip kit, Moog 5664 coils, Fabtech SA kit, Rancho Shocks, 30x9.5x15 Destination A/T's (SOLD!!!!)

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

I have the build thread and vids of my exhaust in my sig. Do a little more research before you think about what exhaust to get. Cuz straight pipe true duals is not a good idea haha

Haha no prob. Always here to help. And the spintech sportsman isn't bad. I personally think the sportsman a lil too quiet for the 4.3 but it sounds badass on my cousins 94 sierra. The old 350 TBI. But my personal favorite is the spintech prostreet. Its the step up from the sportsman. If you really wanna go balls out you can get a Spintech proshout out but thats just stupid loud

No, mufflers can be pretty free flowing depeding on what you get. Flowmasters for those who are on the cutting edge of things is a dying brand. They don't flow real well at all and they rust out veryy quick especially if you live somewhere it snows. Just a straight pipe will be loud but it won't sound good where as a muffler will add a good tone to it.

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

I put a straight pipe to thrush welded right now it dumps on under my cab but I'm hoping to put an angle pipe with a tip to make it a little more throaty. good look getting a v8 sound out of a v6. they are always going to be more high pitched not deep but i have a buddy he has the same thing i got but with a cat and its much deeper not as loud and wild as mine.

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

You'll be best off to open everything up with headers, high flow cats, and a good muffler. I like the Magnaflow sound a lot more than I do Flowmaster. Magnaflow has a deep throaty sound that to me is more muscle car than the flowmaster sound. Also depends on how much noise you want in the cab.

black step side w/shavers, retro 3d's, 20 inch panthers, k&n intake, flowmaster dual exit, halos and diamond clears, 2 12inch l7's, painted interior, need to find someone who can weld, willing to buy beer!!

04 white Avalanche Z71 leathered out and stock, needs caddi handles, paint matched flares and bumper cap, pipes, and Dueces

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

honestly flowmaster isnt a dying breed, i have a crew member with a flowmaster 40 series dumped before the rear axle on his 4.3 & it sounds great damn near like a v8. i have one on my 2.2 (catback single in duel out) & its pretty deep. if you want it to be loud & deep id go with a single in duel out flowmaster super44 & run duels on it.

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

The whole point of different mufflers is they provide different sounds.

The whole debate on these forums between flow 40's, spintechs, maggies, and other mufflers is the sound. Nobody here really argues the 0.053875hp difference between them. Because if you wanted the HP you'd run straight pipe.

And yes you need a muffler.
Straight pipes will and do sound like ass.
So again you need a muffler.

The cat is optional, but recommended, the headers are a huge waste of coin.

You can't and won't get that V8 sound, because it's not a V8, and you don't hear people bragging about that V6 rumble... Those missing two cylinders might have something to do with it.

However you can get a very tolerable sound from a good muffler. Listen to clips from magnaflow, spintech, and what ever else. Then decide what you like.

You obviously haven't heard a V8 than...my truck has 4.3 and the exh. is all 3" piping, hi-flow cat, spintech prostreet and my uncles '94 oldschool 350 sierra is still deeper toned than mine with just a spintech sportsman which is a more mild muffler than the prostreet. AND FOR THE THOUSANDTH TIME...2.2's ARE NOT DEEP SOUNDING. Flowmaster for those who know better is a dying breed, for the bagged 2.2L or the unknowledgable 4.3 beginners it is just somethin that seems cool.

Re: Best Exhaust For That Muscle Sound?

Also super 44's are pretty quiet. Lol quiter than the more popular flow 40's and my pro street is still easily louder than those

Any suggestions?

look man dont let these guys sh*t talking get to ya if you want the muscle car sound go with a magnaflow muffler and run a split pipe out the back so it looks like duals thats how mine is and it sounds like a 350 a stock one but a 350 has the rumble and sh*t your looking for or since you said you wanted true duals all the way back go with the magna flow muffler on each side and then run 2 in pipe the rest of the way with a big crome tip on each side you dont want to run 3 inch cause the 4.3 runs at a low back pressure from the factory and if you go 3 inch it wont be enough youll loose power but 2 inch should be fine at it will sound great
