Re: 4.3 straight piped
When I had my engine replaced I had heddman hedders installed, custom 2 1/2" or 2 1/4" Y-pipe to a Hi Flow Magna Cat and a Dynomax Bullet muffler and turned down after that.
I think it sounds awesome. Of course its no V8 but it has a little growl at idle and a unique sound under throttle. Not at all raspy or nasty sounding! The muffler and cat were cheap from www.Summit.com |

Re: 4.3 straight piped
you can take your cat off, put on a flowmaster super 40 muffler and run it down before the rear axle to have it sound like this

my best friend has a 00 tahoe 4.3 straight piped after the cat and it sounds badass! I never thought it would sound good but it really does and highway noise not annoying inside IMO

Re: 4.3 straight piped
But it's gunna be harder to trick people with an s10. I would say this depends on how much power you have now or how much you're going to add in the future. The cheaper alternative than full pipes is one in/two out. It'd cost half the price and as long as you're staying under somewhere around 400-500 hp you're fine. Headers will help wake it up a good bit |

Re: 4.3 straight piped
And, s10gmconversion, if you heard my truck without knowing, even at full throttle, you'd also think it was a v8. I'm no engine novice, the sound is the the same. |

And if I have the same vid posted as it being a v8 without knowing you'd tell me how different parts of the exhaust tone sound like a v8. Catch the drift? |

Re: 4.3 straight piped
I was also thinkin of getting a flowmaster 1 in 2 out and just putting turn downs after it. My uncle had a 20 muffler like that and it didnt sound bad but it was on a 350. Anyone have any guidance or opinions on the sound that set up would make?

Re: 4.3 straight piped
just remember on any vehicle exhaust will sound different and people will have their own opinion. On another note if you like the sound of your vehicle on the inside it will sound totally diff on the outside.
i personally have factory cat, a flow 40 single in/dual out with turn downs reight behind teh tires, it has a depe rumble, and i can't hear it in the cab which is what i like. There is no use and telling every cop in town I am coming down the road. that is what MY WS6 is for. IMO, if your exhaust is loud it better be packign some HP to move the vehicle. Having loud A$$ exhaust and the vehicle moving 10 feet per hour looks and sound like shi* |

Re: 4.3 straight piped
you can get the same loudness and tone, but the melody is different, and not as pleasant as the V8's... Last edited by Crew Cab Sonoma; 08-10-2009 at 08:45 AM. |

I have heard some good sounding 4.3's. Obviously no V8 but decent sounding none the less. |

Re: 4.3 straight piped
anybody tells you 4.3's don't sound good, they're full of it. A good magnaflow cat n 2.5 pipes w/dumps by the bumper/rollpan, best combo ever. You can hear me a mile away

Re: 4.3 straight piped
I am lookin mainly for deep, good sound not just noise and this truck is my dd so i dont want it to be droning inside. My exhaust is i think the original from what i can tell from maintence records i have. My truck has 136,000 on it and i have no clue if its even remotly possible that it last that long (but it came from new jersey then went to long island and has never seen salt). Im looking for cheap and still sounding good and i like the idea of getting the sound to atleast the rear axel. Would using a single in single out sound any diff. from a single in dual out? Again, any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
