'02 Blazer, o2 sensor location question
OK, still getting used to the "new" truck here..
02 blazer, 4.3 W getting a p0137 code, bank 1 sensor 2 circuit malfunction thingie-jobber-whatever..Here's my question..On my '97, I had 4 o2 sensors, and bank 1 sensor 2 referred to the pre-cat sensor (single converter setup) on the passenger side. There seems to be no such sensor on the '02s with the pre-cat/cat setup. Does this p0137 now refer to the post-cat sensor, or is it referring to the passenger side sensor in the y-pipe just after the manifold? Checked the code several times to make sure, p0137 each time. Just wanna make sure which one it is b/c apparently there's two different harness plugs on the later models' o2 sensors, a flat 4 pin, and square 4 pins in the front, yes? Any help is mucho appreciated. Last edited by 02_Black_XBlazer : 11-29-2008 at 10:31 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: '02 Blazer, o2 sensor location question
i just ran into the same prob, except mine isnt giving an o2 sensor code, its throwing multiple misfire and r & l bank rich codes. i tuned up everything which leads me to believe its the o2 sensors. ANYHOW...
the 02 only has 3 sensors, two pre-cat and one post-cat, that much you know, and yes its the post-cat sensor that would give a p0137. what i just found out today is that all 3 sensors, according to the chevy parts department, are the same part number. in fixing this you have a few options... 1) you can replace it a few times a year with bosch or borg warner parts but only pay like $40 for the sensor 2)you can get an ACDelco from chevy for $160 and not have to replace it for another 100k mi 3)You can talk to Jesse Bubb at wait4me performance and have him delete the post-cat sensor from the pcm for like $60 OR 4) and this is what i did, i found a delphi (acdelco broke away from gm and now operates as delphi electronics) on ebay for $34 plus like $6 shipping. so i ended up buying 2 sensors from this guy to replace my pre-cat ones and i paid $71.96 for both including shipping. heres the link to the sensors... (and btw this guy has lots of normally pricy stuff (ie, ign modules, fuel injectors, sensors, etc) for mega cheap so i added him as a fav seller http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150298184046 as of now theres only 8 left cuz i bought 2, lol. trust me i spent all day today doing the research, calling chevy, autozone, looking up part numbers for both acdelco and bosch (bosch was only as a part number reference) and did some research into delphi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delco_Electronics) and they still seem 100x more reliable than bosch and borg-warner. also if anybody cares, i went to autozone to check out the differences between the 01 and 02 sensors (since bosch lists the 01 sensors as an 02 post-cat sensor, remember that gm says all locations should have the same part number) and the differences are the 01 has the flat 4-pin pigtail and the 02 has the square pigtail. also the end of the sensor looks different but i would think the specs are the same (ie voltages) also the wire colors are the same. so in a nutshell, if you have an 02 and you wanna run an 01 sensor (or visa-versa) you could prolly get away with it if you just switch the pigtails by popping the pins out and just putting them in the other style plug, i do not recommend splicing unless you can solder and you have some brush-on black tape. well i hope this helps more ppl than just 02_black_Xblazer. thank you for reading this long arss post, that is all Last edited by muckRunner : 12-01-2008 at 08:43 PM. Re: '02 Blazer, o2 sensor location question
Spectacular. Exactly what I was looking to hear. This was a ton of help, actually.
The thing I was worried about with true duals on my old truck is that I had to not only get rid of the post-cat sensor (I had a Casper's o2 Sim at the time), but find somewhere to put the third pre-cat sensor, most likely in the X or H pipe junction, and just extend the harness wires a few feet. I was told this third one couldn't be "programmed" out since it would affect fueling during closed-loop operation, so I had to keep it, and it had to be at or after where the two cylinder banks cross over. This is all moot anyhow, since no such sensor is there, now I just have to have the rear one deleted out, and put my X/H/Q-whatever-crossover wherever it's most convienent to put it. Thanks again. |

Re: '02 Blazer, o2 sensor location question
lol...it took me a while to stumble across the name thread myself.
Not a big story on the old truck, too many miles, needed a new one of everything, and had more bodywork issues than I felt like dealing with. Plus we're working on having kids, so something with a back seat finally became a priority. Anyways, I'm glad you were able to help me clarify on the connector issue..at one point I was being told by an Auto Zone employee that many years used both connectors... square in front, flat in rear..but you can huck a rock and hit a thread on this forum about people who've gotten bum advice from a counter-jockey. ![]() |

Re: '02 Blazer, o2 sensor location question
well as far as the back one being flat, its a possibility. i havent been inclined to crawl under mine yet since its only like 4 inches off the ground and we have like 2 inches of snow on the ground, lol.
even if it is, it wouldnt take much to pop the metal pins out of the connectors and switch the right shaped plug onto the new sensor. |
