Zaino with fresh paint

I am going to be getting my truck painted starting Monday. I realize that you shouldn't actually wax or polish you car after it is freshly painted (so I have heard) but, when I will be able to do so I want to try out Zaino. I have heard nothing but good things about them. I just have no clue what exactly to get, there are so many options. So, what should I get?? And maybe throw in some pics of where you have used Zaino. Your help is appreciated...

my dad uses Zaino on his vette. He likes it pretty well. But he likes to complain all the time about the clear coat on it. You can literally scratch it buy rubbing your finger across it.

Re: Zaino with fresh paint

My brother-in-law got me hooked on Zaino products about 4 years ago. I haven't used anything else since. I love how easy everything is to apply and the end results are always stunning.

I use the Z-7 show car wash, Z-1 polish lok, Z-2 show car polish, Z-6 gloss enhancer, Z-16 perfect tire gloss.

i swear by this stuff and is the only thing i will use to buff a car.

i own a mobile car wash and do alot of "custom " ground up restorations and sand alot of them and this is what i use to buff them back out.

as a topper i use either collinite (476s) or Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Re: Zaino with fresh paint

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm hoping to have my 1st gen painted this summer. So what I'm getting from what I've read: Have it polished after the paint work is done (was going to do that anyways), then wax with the Zaino products like I normally would once the paint has finished curing. Correct?

I've used Zaino on my 2nd gen. It turned out nice but it's white so it's hard to see in pics. The other problem I had with Zaino was that it's SO hard to tell what you've waxed and what you haven't after the first coat. It dries clear so you can't see the haze like other waxes.

Re: Zaino with fresh paint

you can use almost anything on new paint long as it does not contain any types of silicone

Re: Zaino with fresh paint

you can wax it almost immediatly. my dad owns a body shop and i detail every car before it leaves here and i always put a coat of wax on everything including the freshly painted stuff and most likely it has only been painted for 2 days at the most.

Re: Zaino with fresh paint

^^ Well I was told by my painter to not do that...? I sent an email to Zaino asking if their products are bodyshop safe. I just received all of the products I wanted today. Cant wait to try it. I got Z-2, Z-5, Z-7, Z-8, and Z-16.

im glad i dont know anyone that has takin a car to "your dads shop" .

there are certain solvents in the paint that need to evaporate to help the paint cure. If you put a sealant/wax on the paint it hinders these gasses from dissipating and MAY harm the finish.

Looks like the professionals at the major paint manufacturers have a completely different view when it comes to paint cure times before waxing.

1- AKZO NOBEL INC [ 1-800-618-1010 ]
Sikkens Car Refinishes standard is to wait 30 days after repainting before you can apply wax or silicone. Their standard of waiting 30 days includes the AKZO NOBEL Sikkens, Lesonal and Utech automotive paint lines.

2- Sherwin-Williams. drbunnell@sherwin.com
Sherwin-Williams standard is to wait 90 days after repainting before you can apply wax or silicone.
Their standard of waiting 90 days includes all of their automotive paint lines.

3- Dupont Corp., Lionville, PA.
Dupont standard is to wait 90 days if the vehicle is out in the elements and to wait 120 days if it is kept in a garage most of the time. Dupont standard of waiting 90 to 120 days includes all of their automotive paint lines.

4- BASF automotive paints. email: lanet@basf-corp.com
BASF standard is to wait four to six months before waxing.

Below is a copy of a email I recieved from Mr. Tony Lane, Supervisor of the Technical Service Lab at BASF automotive paints.

---------------------------------------------------
Frank,

You don't say but I'm going to assume that you have had your car painted with a two component urethane system. These systems offer a high level of protection and a great deal of shine. While they are well cured by the time the shop calls you to pick up your car, in fact, it will take several months for the curing process to be complete. (Remember that your hearing this from a lab guy and we only deal in the real world when we absolutely have to.) I would give four to six months before waxing. If you're like me, that won't be an easy task to wait that long.

I hope that this is of some help to you.

Tony Lane
Supervisor of the Technical Service Lab BASF
