Re: zaino and 3m questions
3M is a good product.
Be carefull with MicroFiber, as all is not created equal. If using Zaino, ask Sal for recommendations for quality MicroFiber. Zaino is an amazing product, I use it on my Summit White Xtreme for the eXtended durability ![]() |

Re: zaino and 3m questions
Best mf towels are from Costco. You get about 16 for under $10 and they are of good thickness and hold up well. I caught flack from the mods at the meguiars forum about mentioning them and then I laughed when I went to a meguiars detailing event and they had Costco mf towels there. 3M polishes like Finesse are good, so are Malco Lite Finish or Rejuvenator and Meguiars #80 and #83 commercial products, more of matter of selecting the correct product to fix the problem you have and the equipment you have (hand, DA buffer, rotary buffer). Too weak a polish and you'll work much harder than you need to and maybe not fix the problem, too strong and you may damage the paint. Use the weakest product that does the job.
As for using mf towels with any wax, I don't see the problem. I use them on various synthetic waxes like Zaino including Eagle Nanowax, NXT Tech Wax and Klasse AIO. I don't use Zaino because in a side by side test of Zaino I've witnessed, I preferred the swirl filling capabilites, color richness and shine of the other products better. So to me, Zaino is hype, good paint preperation before waxing is reality. |

Re: zaino and 3m questions
Just read on the Meguiars forum that mf towels remove more of the wax layer than cotton terry because of the higher surface area. They still recommend mf towels because they believe that they cause less swirls as compared to cotton terry towels.

Re: zaino and 3m questions
They "can" remove more of the cheaper waxes, however, a synthetic wax is not removed and a sealant such as Zaino is not removed...,
The reason- Sealants chemically cross-link and bond to the paint, wax "sits on top" of the paint. That is why I use the products I now use..., long durability, easy to apply, easy to remove and actually has much better protection ![]() |

Re: zaino and 3m questions
![]() I called Sal Zaino and sure enough, only 2 brands on the market are approved and recommended by Zaino Show Car Polishes. Just trying to keep all the information up to date, don't want to or contribute to any rumors ![]() |

What is Sal's criteria for determining what kind of towel is "Zaino approved"?

Re: zaino and 3m questions
Well you know it just seems odd how terry cloths are even mentioned anymore, that just seems so old school when there really was nothing better on the market. Personally I'm yet to use a MF towel of any grade/quality that makes me think I'd rather be using Terry cloth (especially on paint)

Re: zaino and 3m questions
I agree,
I never liked terry cloth cotton, but quality cotton is still good for certain waxes and polishes. DF is microfiber cotton, very soft, great for QDing but not the most absorbant or best for removing polishes. That is the reason for specialized towels, one design for glass, one design for polishing, one design for drying, one design for applying, etc, etc... There is not one towel that can do all things best..., There is soooo much science that goes into detailing, it really is amazing ![]() |
