Cool WOO!!! Got my headlights done (Pics)

Well, my headlights were nasty and very cloudy, so cloudy i couldn't see my bulbs inside. I decided to wet sand them and polish them with Blue Magic Metal polish. All i can say is wow, if your headlights are cloudy i would definitely recommend this. so here are the pics.

This was worth the 6.5 hours of work (yes it was that bad, and i only had 800 Grit and 1000). what do you think?

After

Re: WOO!!! Got my headlights done (Pics)

here ya go. www.TechGuys.ca | How to: Polish plastic lenses

for the polish i used Blue Magic Metal Polish. Just ask for it at auto zone. ALWAYS KEEP WATER ON THE HEADLIGHT WHILE WET SANDING!!!! a spray bottle works great. Just sand and spray until your done. I also went in a circular sanding motion on the bad spots and before i polished them I sanded up and down.

You don't really need 400 grit sand paper, but it would make it go quicker if they are really bad. i just used 800 and 1000 on mine. A good way of telling if you are done is to feel if the surface has any bumps or any imperfections, and shine a flashlight at the lens to see imperfections better. If you take your headlights off make sure you put them on right. I worked on mine while they were on my truck.

Good Luck

Just because you can get things done faster doesn't mean they turn out the same. be careful that you don't burn the surface.

Re: WOO!!! Got my headlights done (Pics)

How are they holding up? I never had any luck with polishing lights without them re-hazing in a few weeks when the polish starts to wear down..

Headlights have a thin layer of UV protection on them, and that is what turns yellow and fades, and eventually, starts to flake.
I too, sand with 800, 1000 or 1500, 2000 or 2500, then 3000.

I don't want to hijack your thread with my pics, but I posted some in my other thread....

well on mine they never flake at all and its been 4 months already. i just re-do mine because i didn't do a prefect job the fist time (like around the raised knobs). that blue metal polish is suppose to leave a silicon protective layer. but either way mine never flaked after a week, they just stayed looking crystal clear, and mine were wayy worse that that pic you have on post#112.

::edit:: here is a pic of the stuff i used, you can get it at autozone

your supposed to put wax over the lights once you clean them real good to prevent hazing again.
