Gotta love that good ol road salt... I usually take mine to the local coin-op wash and give it a good high-pressure wash underneath, up inside the box sides and along the body seams. The local wash bays here use hot water during the cooler months so you've got some time to get the bulk of the water off before it starts to freeze, or you lose the feeling in your hands, which ever comes first. generally I wait for a half mild day... The other option is to get someone you know in the undercoating business to soak the hell out of it before the winter. I know a guy here where I live that literally goes overboard, but it pays off. He squirts the stuff in any spot that he can get the tip of the gun at, even seams and pinchwelds! I just got my 85 done 3 weeks ago and he charged me $51.75, taxes included..and that's in Canadian dollars!

BTW, it you don't have a set of winter steel wheels, coat both the front and back side of your wheels with a good coat of Vaseline. It'll attact dirt, but it'll save your wheels from pitting.

Now why in the heck wouldja do that if ya knew you were gonna drive it in the slop? Ain't nothin worse than a good thick coat of salt smear on the window.

just had a funny thought....why don't you get a refillable squirt bottle from the local dollar store and fill it with washer fluid? At least then you could just crank down the window and spray a stream on the windshield.

Re: winter? cleaning?

Most of the touchless car washes have an underbody spray. Get that wash and you should be good for a bit. Ideally you want to prepare for winter washes by having your vehicle undercoated, washing, sealing, and waxing the paint. More than one coat of wax does help improve protection. I'd recommend a carnuba paste wax. Oh well maybe next year eh! ...

Re: winter? cleaning?

Washing is always the first step. Of course it's ok.

Your truck could probably use a layer or two of wax if nothing else. Salt and weather tends to wear the wax and sealer.

Re: winter? cleaning?

During the winter I try to keep the vehicles sprayed off at least once a week. Even if it freezes coming home from the car wash it will thaw once inside the garage.

Re: winter? cleaning?

We hit 56 here in Omaha yesterday so when I got home from work last night I pulled out the pressure washer and blasted the car clean. I then went over it with a sponge and soap and then dried it. A cold front went through early this morning and it's only supposed to be 33 today. I left the car at home and drove the Jimmy today. I figured I'd let the car be clean for 1 day. It's been a shade of crud for about 2 weeks now.
